Anti-OTP: girl!Mordred/boy!Zara

She's standing on the bank of the lake, in rough men's clothes too big for her tiny frame (the shirt, left open at the neck, is positively dangerous), with her hands plunged in her hair. It's glossy black and heavy, it's nearly to her waist, it's disturbing, and she has no idea what to do with it.

"Y'did it again," from behind him, amused--for once, amused, after this whole horrible business.

"My da showed me. Here." He moves to stand behind her.

"He have this problem too?" dryly, holding still.

[russet_goddess]

Snort. He takes her hair in hand and starts dividing it into sections, pulling and twisting and crossing deftly.

And Mordred is quiet for once, only shivering a little once or twice.

"Pretty," he comments, after a moment.

[illgotten]

She laughs a little, uneasily. "I suppose so."

[russet_goddess]

"There," a moment later, draping the finished braid over her shoulder and letting his hand rest there near her collarbone.

[illgotten]

A moment's pause. "Thanks," on a slightly shaky breath. She takes out the pin, and concentrates on trying to secure the end of the braid with it.

Then he steps back and goes to the edge of the lake, crouches and looks into the water.

"What're you doing?"

[russet_goddess]

"I look like an idiot." He laughs slightly, same laugh as always, and straightens again.

[illgotten]

"No, you don't," irritably.

[russet_goddess]

"What's it to you?" turning back to her.

[illgotten]

Shrug, flipping the braid back where it belongs. "You don't, that's all."

[russet_goddess]

"M'hair's all funny." He tousles it. "Mebbe it'll look like this when it grows out. When'm a girl again."
