Non Spoilerific Movie Round Up: Oscars Nomination Round 1

You better believe we're watching a film a day at the moment; please don't make recommendations to me until after the Oscars as I just won't have time.

Bolt: Disney family fun genericide; it's more fun than I was expecting but it won't ever shine a light to Wall-E. John Travolta and Susie Essman star as the Hollywood dog lost in the wilderness ( Read more... )

I was just about to say the same thing re: David Hyde Pierce, which was why Abe's voice sucked.

Not sure I'd be willing to describe any part of that film as subtle though...

Wall-E was a strong contender for my favourite film of 2008. Iron Man and Dark Knight probably edge it out (and heck, if I could spend a billion dollars on building myself superhero gadgets I probably would), but Wall-E was lovely.

Of course, I always liked rogue modrons.

Wall-E: In my my not so humble opinion and somewhat obsessive animation fan behaviour I consider this to be the best film Pixar have done to date.

Lordy yes. So good! And so much more character and expression in two animated, dialogue-less robots than you tend to get in a lot of crap run-of-the-mill films...

From one Danny Boyle fan to another... what did you think of Sunshine?

I really enjoyed it but you could put Cillian Murphy with hand puppets and I'd still find it awesome.

I don't know though it was a little bit Solaris, a little bit Event Horizon and a lot more dark than I usually like my sci fi. I'm glad I saw it in the cinema though as the sound/vision of the Solar scenes was impeccable.

huh - The Duchess floored me! wasn't expecting it either. perhaps i was going through a vulnerable moment - but found it truly tragic (though perhaps a little historically questionable).

I really enjoyed it but Mikey came in, saw I was watching another film said "Hey what are you watching without me!" and when I told him he went "Ohh..." and looked bored before I'd finished.

I think that's basically my point, good film, entirely beautiful, limited audience scope.
