Café; 1.957 words.
Choi Minho - Jung Yongjoo (Nicole).
Rating: PG - Genre: Romance, Angst - BIG BANG’s Café.

Café.
Inside the café, you’ll see one of the most gorgeous barista you’ve ever seen. He has a perfect face, perfect body, and perfect behavior. But seems no one would care about that just because, yeah, he’s only a barista. What he is doing there only to serve the customers-asking what they want, struggling in the kitchen with some other baristas, and put their order on the table they occupy. He seems fine with this stuff but, no, he’s not like that after all. If you’re a typical observer, you’ll find out that the guy always turned his head to the entrance door or maybe at the white couch in the corner of the café, and he obviously looked at that blankly.

That guy, Choi Minho, misses his best customer so bad-that she’ll never know about that.

I remember when you walked through that door,
Sat down in that chair.

He’ll always remember at how does she look-she was like a baby doll for him. Compared to Barbie, he still considers that baby doll as the most gorgeous doll he’d ever seen. That wide dark chocolate eyes, chubby cheeks, sweet yet foolish smile, and shoulder-length hair that looked neat though she said that she was sweating a lot. And it settles all on his head. Also when she stepped into the café, and she landed her ass on that white couch-Minho found it special. But it was already past. Anything that related to past time will pass. It couldn’t happen again, and he couldn’t reach it anymore.

The times that we shared,
But you’ve been here.

“E-eh, annyeong haseyo!”

The girl with a white outfit bowed her body deeply as she entered the café and looked at the barista behind the counter. She smiled childishly when her body back upright, then walked to the corner of the café-and that barista, Minho, followed her by stepping out slowly from behind the counter and approached her who was seated at her spot. Along with his smile, Minho began to greet her-formally.

“Good evening, Miss, what can I help you?”

The girl who used to smile a lot started to get confuse, so she titled her head and her eyes were looking at the menu display on the desk counter-oh, the writings was big enough to be read from a distance. “Hnn-iced coffee?”

.
.
.

“Thank you!” the girl was cheered up as her single order delivered by him. While Minho just gave her a tip of smile, indirectly said, ‘Enjoy the coffee, miss.’ Then he began to step backward slowly, as his eyes were still focused at her, noticing how she finally sipped her iced coffee and looked outside at the same time. Seoul was still busy even at this time; he could see it through the glass window. People were passing by, some of them were coming to the café-yes, there were a lot of customer this evening, and one of them was that girl.

The usual Iced Coffee, Espresso double shot,
Close your eyes; let it slide smoothly down your throat.

Minho couldn’t take his eyes out of her, seriously.

My heart beats faster.
The tremors when I first met you,
The café helps me remember that attraction...

It was 50th days since she came to the café for the first time. Finally Minho was able to know a little about the girl who comes almost every day for these 50 days as she always asked him to sit with her together on the white couch and she was always be the one who brighten up the atmosphere between them.

Her name’s Jung Nicole and fortunately she’s at the same age as Minho-twenty. She’s a Korean and used to live at California for several years but she came back to Korea after she accepted at Geonguk University. She had a helpless sense of love to coffee-and Minho had already known that, because he would always deliver her order when she ordered Iced Coffee again. Coffee was relaxing for her, and her favorite spot was so comfortable that she didn’t want to go home sometimes. Minho even had to force her to go home sometimes, and Nicole would obey it-and she always said that she would come to his place again the next day.

“Minho.”

Minho was just passing over her seat for coming to another customer when Nicole called him. He turned his head for a while and then talking through his eyes. ‘Wait a minute, Nicole,’ and then he disappeared from Nicole’s sight for a while. When she caught Minho’s silhouette was moving towards her, Nicole immediately shifted her seat, so he could sit next to her.

“Hey, you told me that you had some graphics design book recommendations for me, right?”

“Yes. Do you really need them now?”

“For an assignment, Minho. Don’t you know that my teacher is a kind of freak-he gives me a lot of unwanted assignment and-”

Somehow, Minho loved the way she talked-or precisely, rambling. He never met a talkative girl like her before, so it was a kind of relief for him to meet such a girl like Nicole. His heart kept trembling inside-he couldn’t help it. It was weird, way too weird for him.

“-really, I don’t know what’s wrong with him. Does he hate me or something? I’ve never done something bad!”

He had a pair of ears to hear all of her rant, and all he can do was just patted her shoulder gently. His eyes glanced at her glass. He thought the girl next to him would order an Espresso again. But he just waited Nicole to say something-he didn’t have anything to say, even though his heart was trembling too much (and you know what people said about this, it must be love) but Minho remained quiet for a while and finally murmured. “I can give you the books tomorrow, if you want.”

“Thank you, Minho. You’re the best. But...”

“...?”

“Just give it one by one every day; you know I can’t read all of that at the consecutive time.” Nicole giggled as she finished her word-that made Minho giggle a bit too. He nodded as he also smiled slightly. “Do you think you can read all of them in a day, Nicole?” Minho said, carefully. He wondered how she could read all of the books he’ll give to her.

“Well, you know I don’t like reading, so... I’ll read it all by skimming!”

“I think I’m in love with my best friend, Minho.”

It was the 70th days. Minho had a break time from his work, and Nicole finally got a month break from her college. And Minho... never expected that she would say it like to him one day. His eyes were widened-wider than usual. He thought he knew who that lucky Nicole’s best friend was. Once she brought all of friends to the café, including Kibum-her best friend. Minho’s brain was like a sponge, it was easy for him to remember all of things, though he’d also forget that easily. But, the thought about Nicole and everything that related to her were settled in his mind.

So, she’s in love with Kibum, eh?

“Well... does he love you too, Nicole?”

“I don’t know about that, Minho.” She shook her head as her eyes were pointed at the outside of the window. It was raining out there. “Oh, is it okay to talk about this thing, Minho?” Nicole was insensitive, one thing he always noticed but she never realized it.

I think it’s a no, miss. “Yep.”

Only the white chair that you sat in has your scent on it.
You left leaving only a heartless silence.

Day 85. Nicole never came to the café again. But Minho still made some Iced Coffee and he kept it in the fridge-in case she’ll come in unexpected time. There was also a book-he wanted to give it to Nicole but she never came back again. He even put a red bookmark between the pages-Minho made it by himself. A lot of thought kept wandering in his mind. Why didn’t she come here again? Did she really go on date with Kibum? Did she hate me or something? But I’ve never done something bad to her.

My wandering heart is frightened.
Alone and lonely, lying in a lightless room,
Thinking of you, remembering you, this pathetic painter.

He admitted that for these eighty five days, since the first time Minho met her, he had been fall in love with Nicole. He was a fool, he kept waiting until she said that she loves him too, so he could express his feelings also. Such a fool, he knew that. Nicole was just his acquaintance, or maybe more than that, someone who’s comfortable to talk with in this place. But for Minho, she’s his first love, the first girl who steals his heart unconsciously.

My only masterpiece is our love tragedy.
My heart is an art gallery filled with you.
Without you, Seoul is nothing but a desolate desert.

So when the night came, Minho would always take a seat at her favorite seat. He didn’t care even if some of baristas asked him to go home and then he told them that he would hold the key. He was desperately in remorse-Minho never went through this time in his life. He might be not as desperate as some actor on drama that aired on television. He’d like to sit, looking at the outside of the window, and let his mind wandering everywhere. Or even let his ears listening to the rain.

“Hey, Nicole, are you fine there?”

When I think of you, I call your name.
The coffee I made for you, and the folded bookmark,
And the rain falls down on the white house that belongs to only you, baby.

It was still 10 in the morning; Minho got his morning shift for the first time. Just half an hour ago this café opened, the place was already visited by some customer.

“Annyeong haseyo!”

That sound was heard by him when he was writing one of his customers’ orders. Minho knew who the owner of the sound was, he really knew. But he needed to finish his work first for a while. It was a pretty shame for him because there was no a lot of baristas take their morning shift. So when he was finished with other customers, he made his step turned to another customer who had already sit in her seat. A bright smile was imprinted on her face, as finally she looked at the barista’s face again. “I don’t want to order something first.”

Minho fell into his confusion. “Why?”

“Because I want you to sit here first...” Nicole was giggling as she watched the guy obeyed her order. “I love you.”

“...”

“I love you. I was such a fool when I thought I loved Kibum. But, no, I realize that I love you.”

“Then I have a confession...” Minho was deeply looking at her eyes. He tried to grab both of Nicole’s hand but the opposite happened-Nicole was the one who grabbed his hands. “I have this feeling even since we first met.”

“Yes?”

“I love you too. I thought you’d never know that.” Minho smiled widely at his words, and then suddenly he kissed her bare forehead. It was the 100th day, and Minho realized, this baby doll is worth to wait.

“Oh, anyway, I want two Iced Coffees.”

“Two...?”

“For you and me, Minho-yah.”
