Real Life creeping in, or is the other way around?

Oct 11, 2008 19:07

If you don't know, I'm totally in the closet. The only people in my real life who know that I even read, much less WRITE, fan fiction are my husband (who has read up to chapter 22 of Claiming Hermione) and my dad and mom, who have NOT read it (thank goodness!)

Well, I have this friend, a close friend, who was having a rough time a month ago and (in ( Read more... )

Heh. My mom knows that what I write is smutty, but that doesn't phase me. I'm pretty sure she is to blame for my "open mind." My dad on the other hand *shudder* He's asked me the name of the story and he could (and may have) looked it up. And I am perfectly happy NOT to have him mention it if he's found it.

It is easier to do all this and be anonymous. In my career, people are VERY internet savvy and very connected. I try pretty hard not to give away my identity. My collegues would not understand. It could damage my career. *sigh* But, I think I'm safe for now.

I'm a graphic designer and art director. I work in the world of people who make "cool." I don't feel very cool, but I suppose I'm cooler than some. I prefer to be authentic and myself and I think that rolls over into my work and that's a good thing. A lot of "cool" designers are more interesting in being the hippest or most cutting and edge and totally miss what their clients actually need...

*tells self to get off soap box and quit rambling*

There is a difference between a job and a career, and I often wish for those days of a job. There was something more free about it. But then, I LOVE what I do...

I really need to catch up on my reading. Maybe someday...

How cool that your friend likes and supports your hobby! Not everyone is so great about it. I'm glad she's into your story now too!

My sis knows I write it but she won't read it. She's pretty religious and has all kind of horrible notions about the evil Harry Potter books. *rolls eyes*

I wonder why finding out we write HP ff is so bizarre to some people. Why do we get 'that look' when they find out?

I need to catch up too. I mean, I SHOULD be reading Obscurity, Lessons & Obsessions, BBD, the list goes on... but yesterday I was trying to quote some specific spots in bunney's Dowry and I got sucked in all over again. I was kind of surprised to realize that it was that story that helped set my idea of who Draco was early on. It is a great story. And Luscious and Narcissa are great in it too ( ... )

I went to that book party at B&N for book 7 with my niece. I thought it might be fun, mostly for her, but I had the best time too! Every age and status was represented there, some crazies to be sure, but mostly really normal everyday people. We were there when the store opened in the morning and literally lived there all day!

I remember asking Bunney if she'd ever won any awards and she was like, "uh, yeah." ROFL. *giggles at self*

I keep telling myself that I'll take a break from writing for a while and just be a professional reviewer, LOL, but I can't seem to keep from writing. Maybe next time writer's block comes calling, eh?

Oh man, I wish I had a kid to use as a scapegoat and go to one of those. :) *will start looking for kids to coerce*

*giggles at you too about bunney*

Oh dyno, you CAN'T stop writing. No no no no. We would all suffer if you did that! :( *schedules her muse to visit dyno whenever her own if off playing with Draco*

I really think you're a great writer, but I do agree with you on the part of two lives crossing paths. it's really your decision, but of course, will support you in whatever makes you happiest :)

but it's good that your friend encourages you to write more, as we know how brilliant you are at it :)

Thank you for the compliment! I have no intention of stopping writing, so no worries there. I don't see why I can't do both since both make me happy! :)

I'm totally with you there. At least your husband doesn't make fun of you, and actually reads your story. ^.^ 'twas a brave thing you did, letting your friend read your story. ^.^

HA! He DID make fun of me. But I kept putting him in his place and calling on him on his shit. How can you make fun of something you know nothing about. That shit just doesn't fly.

*is STILL so excited you are on LJ now*

yup, so almost everyone who knows me knows that i write hp fanfiction... because i will write it... including the smutty stuff... in notebooks on my break at work and then they'll ask if i go to school, or what im writing... and i tell them, lmao. but they all think im weird anyway, so for me, its just another of those quirks where people will be like, "oh, that's just tara." and while i am trying to turn my job into a career, i work in retail, and such a thing could not damage me in any way.

one of my rl people has read one of my oneshots, and thats it... another wants to but is so busy she hasnt gotten around to it.. i have links to my ff from my myspace, and she always brings up that she hasnt gotten a chance to read it yet, so im pretty sure she still intends to, lol... but im happy that the people you have who do know about it are supportive.

I let my brother read one of my non-smutty one-shots. He thought it was good, and asked if there were any more.

Erm...

It's so funny - during the day, I have all these windows open. Half for "ilke" and half for my superhero disguise. Every time I go to write my name I have to double take! It's a kooky conundrum.

It's great that you can be so free with what you are into. Go girl!

'Superhero disguise'? Love it!
