1. What are the contents of your fridge?
Cheese: Cheddar, Swiss, American, some kind I don't eat but I guess Kevin does although I have never seen him eat it, as well at the Babybell Cheese in the red packages (kind of tastes like Mozzarella but I am pretty sure that is not what it is. Lunch meats: Turkey, Ham, and Chicken (Kevin makes sandwiches for lunch, he will also sometimes combine a couple of cheeses and one of the meats in an omelet which tastes really good). Milk that I need to remember to finish using on Saturday. Coca Cola (I tried to stop but it didn't work so we are trying to get me back off of it again.) Iced Teas (for Kevin, I can't stand the stuff) and Capri Sun Wild Cherry drinks (for me although I prefer them frozen as opposed to liquid). Blueberries, we just ran out of eggs but they were there this morning, whipped cream, butter, oranges, apple juice and a Starbuck's Frappuccino (the type you buy at the grocery, not once from an actual Starbuck's, they don't keep that well). Then finally there is some water in there. The freezer has several frozen veg packages and some individual frozen pizza's Kevin just got for a little variety, ice cream sandwiches, and steak!
2. How did you meet your husband?
I met Kevin online, but that over simplifies the story and I didn't meet him through a dating site. Let me explain that a little more fully. Get comfortable and maybe top off whatever you are drinking, I over explain everything.
I met Kevin because I had gotten the flu and Kevin worked at a TechTv, which I had never heard of until I was sick enough to need to sleep all day for two weeks and was trying to find something to watch in the middle of the night that wasn't a paid advertisement. I landed on a show called Unscrewed that was a late night chat show with a host who I am pretty sure had to have a drink in him to be able to talk in front of an audience. I started watching Unscrewed each night at around 11:30 pm and then one night I caught part of X-Play, which came on prior to Unscrewed, and really enjoyed that show as well. After watching for a little while I started visiting X-Play's forum and made something of a name for myself among the staff (I think in a good way) as I learned later from Kevin. The X-Play staff didn't often go on the message boards at the time, I am not sure if they spend any more time there now as I no longer visit the forums, but when one of them did, it was usually someone with the screen name, Intern_Kev, and he was always trying to be helpful to the fans, showing them where they could find game reviews and answering general questions.
Then TechTv was bought by the same company that owns G4 and they decided it would be best to keep all of their operations together and decided to merge the two channels and move everyone at TechTv to LA, the home of G4. Now, what we then learned was that everyone at TechTv had to reapply for their already existing jobs, including the talent on the shows. Since Kevin was just an Intern at the time and there was no guaranty that they would keep him after the move, he decided to leave for another company. He mentioned this during one of the weekly chats X-Play did (one of only three or four I actually attended) and so I decided to make a good-bye thread for him on the message board. He was very touched by the gesture and said that I could join his personal forum if I wanted to (it was about cars). I also decided to make a fan page for Intern_Kev and asked him what his favorite color was (purple) and if there was a photo of him that he really like that I could put online. A short while later I had the website up and showed it to him, he was really touched by that (no, the site is no longer up). I had decided that I would join his forum two weeks after he left TechTv because I didn't want him to think I was some crazy stalker lady.
So that is how we met online, but there is more to the story about how we met in person.
A couple of days later I got an email from one of my online friends saying that he had been asked by Intern_Kev to get me to join his forum, he wanted to send me a thank you present! Kevin and I spent about a month just chatting via the forums messaging option and then eventually moved up to phone calls. Neither of us had considered that anything other than friendship might come out of this, but we found that all of the important things in life we had in common, although what we are different on we are really different on.
After a few months of almost nightly phone calls (all during free minutes) it was finally suggested that maybe I could come out there to visit. I think if I hadn't made that leap of faith to actually meet Kevin in person we would probably still be talking to each other nightly on the phone. I let Kevin do all of the planing for the "date" which he had left open the option to just keep it in the friend zone if I wasn't comfortable with an actual date. So in early August I flew across the country and the first time I met Kevin was at the airport where he picked me up. The moment I saw him in person I knew he was the one and hugged him and said "mine". I thought I had just said mine in my head, but apparently I said it out loud because it has been a running thing ever since. I had thought before I left that he might be the one, but seeing him in person is what made me certain.
I came out one more time for his birthday before I moved out here over a year later from the first trip.
3. What was your favorite part about going to Disneyland?
On my last trip to Disneyland I think my favorite thing about it was that I got to see my Dad and that he had a good time. The last time my Dad was at Disneyland was 1976 and one of my aunts had planned the trip but only took them on things she wanted to do and ran them through the park so they didn't have time to stop and actually look at anything. I wanted to make sure that he had a good time and felt like he was able to actually enjoy the park and see all of the things he missed the first time around. I was successful.
4. Housework - best and worst; what is your pet hate and what will you (almost) gladly do?
I currently cannot do most housework because staying upright for extended periods of time makes it difficult (it takes me over 30 minutes to get the dishes out of the dishwasher because of all of the breaks I have to take). I would have to say that of what I can do, cleaning up after one of our cats coughing up a hairball is the worst because it makes me want to vomit.
What I enjoy doing is organizing things. I like everything to be in its place and I know exactly where everything is on my desk, in my bookcase, and in the CD shelves. This actually came in use in college because one of my roommates loaned out a CD of mine without asking me and when I got back to the room she nearly went into shock when I said where is the CD and said the title of the CD that was missing. Her excuse was that she didn't think I would miss it. I also like to organize the Kitchen and the Bathroom, really anything that involves shelves and lots of small things. Bookcases are probably my favorite but right now the bending is too much for me to do one of those effectively.
5. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
The achievement I am most proud of involved temporarily fighting off two major fears for about an hour. One time while Kevin and I were on a weekend trip he had seen a sign for a cave tour so we went to the visitor center and he figured we would just buy a rock and leave but I knew he wanted to do the tour. You see Kevin is an adventurer and I am nothing like an adventurer, I would be the Sim passing out from fear at the sight of a bug and he would be the Sim getting excited about finding a mummy in World Adventures. I am afraid of heights but I can generally manage it; I am borderline claustrophobic (it took a long time to be okay with elevators and I still have to imagine I am in a wide open field while I am in one, don't ask how I manage to deal with planes, I have no idea why they don't bother me). So going into a cave on a tiny, steep, poorly lit, old metal staircase that shakes if too many people moved at the same time was not my idea of a good time. But I told Kevin I wanted to try. The park ranger told Kevin that they would put us at the back of the group and if I freaked before the first ten steps they would refund the money for the tour. I made it all the way to the bottom platform and to the back of the cave and I didn't even scream when they did the lights out demonstration. Just to give you an idea of how far down we were, they said if there was an earthquake while we were down there, we would never feel it because we were below the tectonic plates.
