- The World Cup is on its way and I swear, the whole of England is looking like an English pub abroad. You know the ones I mean, with the gazillion flags and the bunting. Tacky BUT amazing. Everything is red and white and the whole country is hyped. I have an England hoodie, a shirt, a cap (which I'll probably never wear) and knickers. Yes, I'm ( Read more... )

Don't you know? USA is going to win the Cup! LOL

You know what's sad? I stopped by a sports store on Saturday and they didn't have a single Team USA or USA Soccer Player's jersey? Plenty of Italia, Portugal, Brazil jerseys including Player Jersey's, almost bought me a Cannavaro jersey.

Make no mistake, they weren't sold out of Team USA they just didn't bother to stock them.

Now, for my real shame, I didn't but the Italian Jersey which is why I stopped b/c I wanted a Rooney jersey...what's wrong with me?

Oh, of course ;)

I find it very sad that most Americans do not 'get' the greatest sport on Earth. Most of the rest of the world does. It's the biggest sport in the world. This baffles me! Maybe it's because they can't play :p

Nothing is wrong with you. Rooney is one of the best players in the world. This is how it should be :D

Says the English Chick :D I was so upset that I couldn't find one that said Rooney. I found his number...maybe I'll order it online.

I printed out the World Cup schedule this morning and highlighted all the games I have to watch...will post it at work tomorrow, so people know the TV is mine!

I'm kind of bummed, I'm going away this weekend and my friend is taking us out on his boat on Saturday, I'm going to miss the USA vs England match. :(

Hey, English or not, we know he's one of the best :D Yes, order it. It will be a wise spend.

*gasp* How can you miss England's match. I'll be watching and hoping and praying and hopefully cheering at the end.

Don't worry about USA, worry about Mexico when we find each other in the finals ;)... or something!!

Believe me, Mexico is the same, everyone has the t-shirt, you see the adds and news and everything all the time!!

I get so nervous about it!!! I hope they do good.. and don't worry, we do know the name of the game, after all we have been playing something soccer related since the pre-hispanic ages here ;), only.. they kind of killed the wining team so I'm happy we evolved!!

Oh, Sandra Bullock rocks!!! If I loved her before I love her more now!! Hugs!!

Hee!

I love Mexico because you guys are a footballing nation too. You get the passion for the game where as the Americans tend to mock it, which is blasphemy.

Oh, I forgot to mentions the ads. There is a WC ad for everything, supermarkets, banks, Maccy D's, everything you can think of and more.

HA! Let's not even start 'the origins of football' debate *rolls up sleeves*

I'm nervous too. If England get knocked out early, I won't be able to enjoy the rest of the tournament at all.

Sandra B is love.

Hmm... well, the "origins of Football" debate... should be get on it?? After all there are games of ball here since.. oh my, almost 3,000 years, here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_ballgame

Is different of course, but we did played with soccer balls since then ;)

I just don't know how I feel about Mexico's chances, we did won against Italy but playing the first game.. oh it freaks me out really bad!! Hugs!!

BTW just read all the quotes and I thought the Jensen/Allison story was from their days on SV. I didn't realize that they still hung out/were friendly. Man, I hope *crosses fingers* that JA gets AM to do an episode of Supernatural

They're from 2007 when they both attended a con in England. I loved reading about their interaction because they didn't have many scenes together in Smallville and I desperately wanted them too. It's sweet that they get on so well.

*crosses fingers too* It would make my year if she did.

*Hangs head in shame at USA team*

Years and years ago I was in Italy during the World Cup games (which, I had no interest in, but I don't have any interest in sports in general). When asked, I would say with a sincere expression that I was sure the US would win. Then we'd all just laugh and laugh.

LOL!

I'm guessing you got to see some good old fashioned football mania.

The USA needs to start taking football serious. It's very unacceptable that they don't.

It's actually very popular as a sport for upper class kids. That's where the term "Soccer Mom" comes from. They're the suburbanite women who drive their children to soccer practice.

I'm not sure we need another sport to be obsessed about. Philadelphia is having a minor scandal at the moment because over the weekend a small child (like a toddler) was seen drinking a beer at a professional baseball game.

What I can't figure out is how Soccer is such a huge game in middle-school, high school even up to college level but not professional. I guess it doesn't help that all of the good American players end up playing in Europe b/c they can get the money and end up on a winning team.

Didn't USA here footballs coming home to England!! (Orignal 96 version is best). Can't wait till Saturday.
Agree with you on the mass of flags and stuff, this from most Councils who wouldn't let people fly the flags on St George's Day, but for football it's ok, madness.

You could tell in Smallville that JA and AM where friends, esp in that shot of Lois throwing the ball and they're off to the side or when he's in hospital and she vists but still holds his arm even though she not suppose to know him that well. Hope AM gets to appear on Supernatural.
