Kristin Kreuk posted the following entry on her GBD blog:

It has been so long since I wrote last… Been working my tush off in TV-Land. And since it is American Thanksgiving, I have got a few days.

I am being approached to do some press for my new film Street Fighter, which comes out late February. There is a specific Men’s Magazine that I am being ( Read more... )

If she's not contractually obligated to do it and it makes her feel uncomfortable or what have you, she needn't do it. Although, she may be in the wrong industry if she's uncomfortable sexying it up a bit.

I guess it depends on what she's willing to do and what the magazine expect her to do. If she feels comfortable after she's talked it over with them then I see no reason for her not to go through with it.

I actually don't think she minds sexying it up as longs as she feels it's needed. Have you seen Partition. There were a couple of scenes in there that were quite sexy but she seemed to have no qualms.

What happened with Arena?

Personally, depending on the magazine, I think she should strongly consider it, if it's her intention to stay in this industry.

She did the Arena shoot years ago and she hadn't realized how revealing the shoot would be and ended up very upset and in tears but had to go through with it because she had signed the contract. In the photo's you can see that all her eye make-up is smudged but they liked the look so they didn't do her make-up again.

I can see her point about how those men magazines objective women which, arguably, they do. It seems to me that it's not the lack of clothing per se that is making her uncomfortable, but she's uncomfortable with the message men's magazines send.

I love that she's actually refused to do men's magazines since that one shoot she did. Although I'm not a big fan of her acting, I've always respected how thoughtful she is of her decisions. It's quite refreshing to see a young actress who doesn't jump at the chance to get naked. And I don't think she's afraid or unable to be sexy on-screen, she's just drawing a line between telling a story and gratuitous nudity. She's had sexy scenes on SV (like her scenes with Bizarro), but she's also refused to randomly get naked like they wanted in S3 (Slumber, I think).

Anyways, I read about a recent study that indicated that men's magazines are actually more harmful to men's self-esteem than to women's. Apparently the study showed it made men feel inadequate because they can't get the kind of women on the covers.
