It's a hideous circle. These writers make women seem like such twits and in turn women think it is ok for them to behave in such a way and thus we get such books. It's ok for people to be skanky. But at some point they have to grow out of it.

I have always disagreed with the idea of Bridget Jones' Diary as a modern day Pride and Prejudice, even if the hero's last name is Darcy. Lizzy Bennett would have been running the place, and would certainly have never had the men problems Bridget did! I, too, have a problem with the idea that being "empowered" women means acting and dressing like a slut. I also have a problem with the reverse - that in order to be taken seriously, you have to pretty much dress like a man. I wish we could wear girly dresses and cute heels, and be taken seriously! :-D

Never saw all of Bridget Jones' Diary so I cannot comment... as I also have never read Pride and Prejudice my non commentability is doubles.
What makes a woman great is her personality. If she commands respect through her presence it doesn't matter what one wears. Or shouldn't, anyway.

My hair was ony a bit past my jaw line before. I keep it short nowsays.
