It got stupid...
...so, I'm gonna go off on a small, teeny, tiny, LJ rant that drops off the confluence of two things I like and twists it so I sorta hate both right now.
See, a coupla days ago, someone decided in a not-nearly-as-dumbass-as-the-rest-of-them way point out a typo in Something Positive on the feed. It wasn't that they were ignorant of the rule that Randy has had since there have been chances to comment on his comics, though they were...they were just saying it as an add on: "This was very good, even with that typo."
Someone else thinks it's intentional, then someone else starts pointing out more typos, and someone else starts wanking out about it...and all of a sudden, Randy is angry.
Angry enough to make a follow up post cheerfully (in his mind) reminding people not to post typos in the feed, to e-mail it to them, and that he's gonna remind them in every comic hence. If people get pissy about this, good-bye feed.
Holy shit; you'd think he'd just harpooned his entire fandom. "Oh, he might take the feed away, he's such a whiny little bitch!" Which of course is just one of the many wankeries featured in this post. ...and one of the butthurt decides to put it on stupid_free, saying that Randy's stupid. ...of course. Trying to enforce your own rules that predate the feed is stupid. Uh-huh.
And, to prove the stupid cuts both ways, some comments from there:
-- "If he can't take a little criticism, he should get the fuck off the internet." Uh, yeah. This is the guy who started his comic by having his main character mail a coathanger to an old girlfriend as a baby shower present. I'm sure he can handle criticism. Let's put it in a way you can understand: S_F has a long-standing policy of banning anyone who shows up to spam personal journals in their name. This is like saying, "If you can't handle a little spam, stop being stupid." ...we're here to laugh at the stupid, not contribute to it (though many S_F'ers, me included, contribute many a time to the stupid, in our own little way. Not piling on someone's personal journal, though.)
-- "I should subscribe to the feed just so I can point out all the spelling mistakes." Whaddaya know, maybe you can contribute to the stupid. Or, in other words, this is like some non-S_F'er saying "I think I'll go spam these dumbasses' journals and say the snots* sent me." See, there's being an asshole, and then there's being a dick. An asshole doesn't care about hurting people. A dick not only cares, but actively conspires to hurt people. Randy Milholland, love him or hate him, is an asshole. You, who want to do something becuase you were explicitly and repeatedly told not to, are a dick. And being a dick is its own, whole entirely different, kind of stupid.
-- "Randy is a dick that stomps on the hearts of his fans!" ...I really hope your anal sphincter heals soon...
...so, yeah. Rather pissed at the whole LJ thingy today. And if you happen to be an S_F'er and disagree with me, I do welcome the argument here. And you can even be an asshole. Just don't be a dick.
