Good morning. As a union retiree, I can agree with the idea that, in any work situation, there will be those who are not "up to speed". As someone who was lucky enough to learn metal layout early in my career, I found that a lot of guys who seemed "uninterested" in working diligently, became fucking dynamos once I taught them some basic layout procedures; not the book-learnin' ones, but the "out in the field-we gotta get this metaled, NOW!" formulas. All they needed was the ability to see themselves as more than just dumbass know-nothings, because no one would help them see how things really worked. ( Or, in a few cases, had to be forcibly 'reminded' of how things worked.) I've had many, many fellow workers make me proud of their work, after they were written off as jerkoffs, and it really is just that easy; a little bit of self-respect is enough to power a great worker.
