fishie update

the mystery of the fishies still envelops the casa di gatto. when royal_spice popped in on tuesday, i could only find one baby to show teh spice... & then i started noticing baby corpses lying under the rocks along the edges of the tank. *oh noes!* i says to myself- but then last night, around feedin' time, i saw at least 7 LIVE babies hiding hither & thither ( Read more... )

well sea monkeys (really a type of brine shrimp) eggs can be reactivated with water. (if all the water dries up then there are the eggs are still at the bottom of the tank..just add water and POOF! sea monkey babies!) maybe that can apply to other species?

when i was little, i wanted sea monkeys soooo bad- b/c i thought they were y'know- actual sea monkeys. & since my dad wouldn't let me have a real monkey...

The babies like to hide in the rocks. Sometimes they dissapear because they are hard to see. Guppies lie on the bottom motionless to sleep too. I've had several I thought were dead and when I went to scoop em they swam off. :)

the dead ones are definitely dead- they've been laying in the same spot, belly-up for 2 days. not expecting them to pull a Lazurus or anything... so far i haven't caught anybody sleeping...

i have no idea how many are in the middle of the tank, b/c i can only see around the edges... (i've got lots of river rocks in the bottom, along w/ 6 or 7 fist-sized desert rocks (from utah), that create all kinds of good hidey spots.

do guppies have orange heads when they're babies?

You are making me want to have an aquarium with fishies now! And that would be a very bad idea, considering the upcoming move.

but i'd give you fishies for freeee!

i also have other names picked out for some of the babies once they mature enough to come out of hiding: Treat, Snack, Sashimi, Unagi, & SoySauce. :D
