It's NSFW, so be aware if you look at the series of photographs called "Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe", where Lindsay and the original photographer recreate the shots of Marilyn a few weeks before she died.

Marilyn Monroe was thirty six when the photographs were taken of her. She's gorgeous. Sexy. Her shape is amazing.

I totally agree -- Lindsay looks tired, beaten-down, and old, as if she's smoked too much and taken too many drugs. WHICH SHE HAS.

(And hi! I've been wondering what you've been up to!)

She doesn't have the curves to pull off Marilyn. :/

Maybe if she was clothed and had a corset she could have just barely pulled off the white dress shoot...

Isn't Lohan like half Monroe's size? Doesn't seem like the best choice. I'm v. fond of Mean Girls but it's the only one of her films I think I've ever seen and there is a big Tina Fey factor there.

Since I've been reading sporadically due to dissertating I'm not always sure if I'm just missing people's posts but you were one of the people I was thinking hmm, haven't seen anything from her in awhile.

See, I looked at this and saw Marilyn being tired, realizing she is 36 and about to be past her prime and then saw Lindsay realizing the same thing at 21. There's poetry to the shoot.

I've seen people say the photographer should be ashamed of himself (I think that was Kottke). What, because there is no Marilyn of this generation he should pack up his lenses? I think this is commentary on celebrity as we know it, and I think it's brilliant.

That's a really fascinating perspective! I guess the way that I see it, Marilyn is stunning at 36. I look at those photographs of her and see someone that I actually desire. She's just so freaking beautiful. It makes me want to be there, with her, and just experience her softness. I just don't get the same reaction to Lindsay.

I concede that as photographic commentary, it is very interesting and intelligent. I just don't respond to the subject matter aesthetically.
