Whofest entry

Here's my entry for the whofest bidness. (aka Doctor Who fic requests)

Title: Roll Over and Play Dead
Request: Originally: Master/companion of the Doctor's, cause there could so be an ex-companion of the Doctor's irritated enough at him to go off with his ex deadly enemy and Be A Bit Evil. Yes. , as requested by Calapine. Then it became Master/Tegan for waterfall8484.
Rating: PG13. Implied bondage.
Summary: A bit of a thing about Tegan post Resurrection of the Daleks. How she copes (and doesn't cope) after leaving the Doctor, which basically means shacking up with a certain classmate of the Doc's.

Enjoy!

Rolling over, she wondered. Either wondered or remembered, couldn’t figure out which. Didn’t know if she ever could, really.

“There should have been another way…”

“Stop lying, Doctor. There never has been so why should there be now? Everything you touch turns to ash.”

Life was clean once. But once it got dirty, even the strongest bleach could never return her to any color even resembling white.

“Tegan, wait!”

“For what? What am I waiting for? I left you because I was tired of the death that followed you. But now I’m in charge. It all happens on schedule now. That’s the only difference. Around you, it would have happened anyway.”

Maybe she found comfort in the shades. Slight aberrancies were usually ignored in the shade; after all, one color of muck looks mostly like other colors of muck.

“Don’t worry, Tegan. I know you’re in there somewhere. I’ve banished the Mara before and I’ll do it again.”

“NO Doctor! You’re wrong. It is I. Tegan Jovanka. And you don’t get to judge me for this. You dragged me around like a puppet on a string. Even when I begged you to take me home. Now I have choice. I’ve made my choice.”

The harbor lights flickered in the window behind his head, as if to draw her close. But she could scarcely bear it, the sight of water. It smacked of death. Death from crashed spaceships, death from invaders who’d almost mastered time itself, death from devils of the sea.

“But he murdered your family! Turned your aunt into little more than a doll appreciated by children and then…and then… just…tossed aside at the first sign of boredom!”

“I know that! But…I also knew once that I was Australian and I wanted to travel. That’s why I became a stewardess. That was my identity and that was enough. And then I thought I was human, and that was enough. But when I left you, Doctor...I could never belong again. With anyone. Ever. But he understood that. And that was more than enough for me.”

Tegan rolled back over, unable to look at the face any longer.

The face that told her to lie absolutely still, eyes closed, while clenching her wrists so tightly they almost bled as he pierced into her.

The face that gave her power and weapons. “To find and destroy the Doctor, to protect even eternity from the destruction that always follows him.” Like an albatross.

She knew that eventually he would turn up again. Until then, the universe wouldn’t even be given the chance to mourn its disappearing planets. She’d make certain of it.

“You rang Miss Jovanka?”

“Yes I did, Inga. I’d appreciate if you’d call in Mr. Jack Harkness. I have an assignment for him and his friend Gwen and want to give it to him before I leave.”

“Vacation, Miss?”

“No Inga. Definitely business.”
