Kate did you see this last night (23 Sept) on SBS?

Lost Worlds - Karakum: A City Under The Sand The Karakum Dessert in Turkmenistan holds some of the best kept secrets of Central Asia. Italian archaeologist, Gabriele Ruggero Rossi-Osmida has spent years digging under the sand of the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan and what he found has changed our thinking about the great civilisations of the past. It was previously thought that the ancient world revolved around the great urban civilisations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Elam and Indus. But Rossi-Osmida has revealed in this documentary sophisticated urban centres, statuettes, pottery and necropolis dating back several thousand years before Christ. (From France, in English and Italian) (Documentary)

Apparently, this civilisation was in the throes of changing from a matriachal society to a patriachal society. I'm going to do some digging (no pun intended) on this and will let you knw what turns up.
