I randomly did a google search for my last name and "chemistri" the company I used to work for to see if I could find any press releases from them about me. What came up instead was my LiveJournal entry talking about how I was leaving the company. It majorly creeped me out that Google can search my LJ, so I paid $5 to get a paid 2 month account ( Read more... )

Yeah. But I also found a script on the internet that'll do it too. I'm just not smart enough to know what do with it.

yeah, that script seems like more trouble than it's worth. if i had a whole day to try to get ruby and the LJ API set up, i could use it (since i'd have a lot of reading to do, i bet, since i've never used ruby). but you did the right thing. i'd also pay $5 to do it easily. i think i may do that, actually. beats erasing my LJ and starting over.

Ya. Do the manual pay and you can use your paypal account to do a one time 2 month subscription for $5.

even without that LJ mirror site, odds are your entries would be accessible via the wayback machine, or google cache.

you have the right to ensure security measures for the content you post, but once it's posted i don't think there's much you can do. i believe public access is the assumption of all content posted, in terms of accessibility. especially where blogs are concerned.

if someone were to take your words and use them as their own, or steal an idea you wrote about, or stalk you, or something, then you could probably raise a sincere grievance. but just being able to view your old posts is probably not something you could prevent at this point.

I guess LJ find only goes back 50 posts, so the majority of my stuff is pretty safe. You know what else is scary though? All my Youtube videos are mirrored in a dozen different countries' websites or spam pages.
