What did you want to be when you grew up?

I saw this on a blog and thought it was fabulous. What did you want to be when you grew up when you were little? O'Bryen keeps saying she wants to be an artist and build an art museum to hold all her art so people can see it. And it will have a Starbucks in it, because she's my child, and the coffee love gene clearly has been passed on (and NO she ( Read more... )

I remember wanting to be an astronaut, except then the Challenger blew up, so I pussied out. Then I wanted to be either a nurse or a teacher- I forget which. This was first grade.

In middle school and early high school, I wanted to be a jockey (grew too big), then a horse trainer. (I'm pretty good at that, actually.)

In late high school, I wanted to be a nurse, but pussied out because of the sciences.

In college, I wanted to be a social worker, then an artist, then a novelist, then a "counter-cult missionary" and then went back to a social work major. I wanted to do residential treatment for troubled youth in a ranch/farm setting. Then I dropped out, because I didn't really know what I wanted to do.

Now I'm a live-in supervisor for a group home for people with disabilities. I can't imagine what else I would do.

Oh, although I am very interested in macro-level work: so community change, public policy, that kind of stuff.

When I was a kid, I only wanted to be an astronomer. Not an astronaut, mind you, just the guy who stares at the heavens and discovers new planets, stars, nebulae, etc.

When I got older, I found out that astronomers don't make jack for money, and it's actually amateur astronomers who do the most discovering.

Still, my interest in the stars and space stands even today...

I wanted to be an astronomer too! For the longest time, even through high school. I was even going to major in physics in college (cuz astronomy wasn't a course of study), but then realized although I was happy gazing at the stars, I was happiest taking pictures of them. So I quickly changed my major and have concentrated on art ever since.

I wanted to be a great pianist. Then I realized that wasn't going to work. I wasn't willing to put out the effort, nor did I think it would be worth it. So I've never really felt like I've had a true calling... Still don't. There are things I want to do in life, but nothing big and monumental.

I also wanted to be wonder woman or dasie duke. Those were my main goals, although sometimes i wanted to be Dolly Parton or Elvira.

I wanted to be a pharmacist, but gave up that idea when I found out that I needed Physics and Maths, both of which I was always terrible at.
After that I wanted to be an architect, until I discovered that Maths and Physics were needed for that too.
Damn Physics and Maths!
