Author's Notes: For
zanisha, because I said I'd write Axel/Kairi and Kairi/Naminé into the same fic/drabble ^^ Random ass title again, but this was my favourite of all the songs/lyrics Zanisha gave me -- so there. Not the greatest, but I tried :)
He sits with her in her cell; although she doesn't dare look at him.
He chooses to watch her -- watch her as her hands do nothing but fold and unfold in her lap. He doesn't even think about why he's there, only that he is and he doesn't feel like leaving. Still, her eyes are downcast and glazed; he can see, and it unnerves him somewhat, that she maybe-sort-of still fears him, just a bit.
"Aw, come on, Kairi," he says in his usual confident manner, "you like my company, don't cha? Come on and say so."
Kairi shakes her head slightly, unblinking. Axel turns his whole body in his seat to look at her, because it almost seems as if she's not even breathing anymore. He's not worried, he's not the type to be worried, but he doesn't want to see her in such a mess, either, not when she starts reminding him so much of her other: that's worrying all in itself.
For one: she seems so delicate and soft... soft to the touch; just as Naminé always appeared, whenever the girl sat alone and to herself. He's enchanted... he feels the need to reach forward and touch her... just her cheeks, just to see if she really is like the shell-girl-witch at all.... he can imagine feeling the heat rise up into her face... He refrains; he laughs, "now what's wrong, Kairi?"
Her eyes shift to look at him, freaky dull blue. "Don't act like you care," she tells him. Her eyes drift, but he doesn't bother to figure out what she's looking at, "I don't even know you."
"Well, aren't you blunt," he still watches her cheeks, toned pretty and pink, "I'm Axel. A-X-E-L, Axel. Got it memorized?"
Kairi giggles. It's the strangest thing -- she hates him (for no reason that he can think of), right? "Do you always have to say that?"
Axel smiles - sharp, straight-up, all the way to his tear-shaped tattoo, smiles - in fact, it's more like a smirk.
"You're not really like either of us, are you, Kairi?"
He stares at her for a long while, still enchanted, as she looks up at him fully. This time, she's looking straight into his crimson-red eyes, unwavering. Good. He isn't much in the mood for her to fear him. Just keep on looking. The teenager frowns, asking: "what do you mean?" And he wants to laugh at her, only because he can -- only because she doesn't know something, "either of... who?"
Axel does laugh now. "...nothing, kid. You'll figure it out eventually."
She accepts this, even though he doesn't really want her to. Back to staring at her hands, she goes. Him too. At her hands, that is.
And he sits with her in her cell; although she doesn't dare look at him.
