When you asked this question a while back, I didn't answer because I couldn't pin it down (which I suppose goes back to the "obscenity" reference). But the thing is, I've called people "sluts" and NOT meant it negatively. So perhaps I was using the word in my own context; but I've heard friends use it the same way, meaning it like, "You have sex with a lot of people, but I don't especially use that as a judgement of your character." For me, it was always kind of the same thing as saying, "Your eyes are brown

I get where you're coming from on the "damaging need" - but using it in a negative connotation feeds the other perception, don't you think?

I do agree. Which is why I try never to use that word. Last night, when I told Ashley about what I was posting, the word sounded weird coming out of my mouth, because I rarely ever use it. I'll even call someone a cunt before I call them a slut as an insult.

If there’s an agenda, it’s slutty - if it’s genuine desire (whatever the impetus), it’s not.

That's always been my take on it. Anyone of any gender who is determined to have sex with whomever they want, whenever they want, and damn the consequences, is slutty.
