Some thoughts about things this week to follow, but first? A big, fat, happy fucking birthday for the light of my heart, HotRod. Every day, no matter what is going on with each of us individually, you make my world a better place. Thank you. I love you from the bottom of my feetses all the way to the top of my head. (Yeh, yeh. Having just gone through a period of unemployment, I'd like to give you just one wee bit of advice.

Enjoy this time for yourself.

You can only jobhunt so many hours in every day. Take those other hours to do things for you, whether it's writing, cooking, having lunch with friends, going to the library, taking long walks, doing yoga. Just whatever strikes your fancy.

I actually followed my own advice and I had a fabulously relaxing summer.

i'll second this, after doing the stint back in '99...
might seem hard at first, but as soon as you get a new job & get back to work, you'll "wish you'd done..." while you were free.

along that same vein - wanna come meet for lunch one day? i'm up in the university area now, and there are several good, not-too-spensive places to nosh!

Maybe re: lunch... For obvious reasons, I am making stringent efforts to not spend any dollars on anything.

But like I told 50_ft_queenie, my goal is to get something nailed down quickly, then use my severance time as sabbatical. *crosses finger*

My game plan is to lock something in early, hopefully, then take the rest of my severance period as sabbatical.

And don't worry, I know there's only so much I can do. I just want to get it done early so I can enjoy the rest of the time. Like, vacation, but more low-key :P

Yeah, the Dems can't do anything too sweeping. They have a small 1 seat majority in the Senate, but with a 3-4 liberal Republicans in Blue states on their side on several issues. But they have a much healthier majority in the House, with 34 seats more than the Republicans. That's a bigger seat margin than what GOP had in their 12 years as the majority.

They said they'll immediately work on minimum wage increase, tax credits for college tuition and Immigration reform. Everyone is waiting for the Baker-Norwood Commission to come out with it's suggested solutions about Iraq.
