I've been reading...
The failure of (what seems to be) the artificial gravity systems has made my studies especially difficult today.
I can now assume that this is a created environment. (As stated above, the gravity appears to be artificial.) Repairs don't go very quickly here, do they? I mean, it's been all of daylight now.

I'm assuming that no one has told you of the curses yet?

I'm afraid that nobody's informed me of anything at all. But... Curses, you say? I'm a man of science, you must understand, the idea of a city that simply spontaniously harvests 'curses' is far-fetched to me.
Surely there's a logical explaination?

You and I, and all of us, are in "the City", and I'm afraid leaving depends on fate, not choice. Some have done it, but a few of those have also returned. They say the urge to return can far outweigh the urge to leave. And the ticking you hear? It's the countdown to the end of the worlds. The carousel in the center is the source of it all, but it's impossible to destroy.
Also, these curses are the whim of the deities that control this place. Though they're annoying, they're mostly harmless and last for only 24 hours.

As fantastically run as this place seems to be, I'll remain firm in the idea that researching has to do me some good. Bother, magic...? There's got to be something that I can find out.
The carousel is a device that counts down to the end of worlds... That's facinating, truly. Terrifying, all the same, but I find myself drawn to the idea. What manner of technology is it..?
