A pair of conjoined twins from the circus were murdered, so Booth and I are going to go investigate undercover because of the reclusive nature of tribe-like subcultures such as circuses. It's very difficult to get them to speak to anyone who isn't a member of their tribe.
It would be very difficult to communicate with the members of the circus without being members. I've tried it before during an attempt to understand them anthropologically. I became rather adept at tightrope walking, but most of them would not talk to me.
A circus is a nomadic tribe of individuals with physical performances and brightly colored costumes. They make a living by performing various and sometimes dangerous acts such as acrobatics, trapeze acts, tightrope walkers, unicycling, animal taming, and clown acts. Their leader is known as a ringmaster and his word is considered law amongst the tribesmen. You can go to see shows, but in order to speak with them on an equal level, you must be a member of their tribe or a similar tribe with a familiar set of subcultural assets. That's why Booth and I are going undercover to investigate a murder there.
