I was going to use "Romany;" I used "Gypsy" both because, as you said, that what Moff used, and also because I thought that too many people might be unfamiliar with "Romany" (that's the term I often use in conversation, and many times I end up having to give the definition). I know that "Romany" is more correct; I didn't know that "Gypsy" is actually considered racist (though how racist, I wonder? I've met so many people that didn't object in the least to being called "black"). Thank you for informing me. "I was on my way to this gay Romany bar mitzvah..." No, doesn't work as well.
