This is going to make little sense to anyone who hasn't read some of the fantabulous Eighth Doctor Adventures books. But lullabee_lj and I were reading some old reviews of them and lol'ing over how often the reviewers would insist on Eight's TOTALLY NOT GAY-ness. Having read many of the books ourselves, we find this hilarious.

This was the result.

Slightly off topic, but I'd not realized how pretty Eight actually is until that picture. (Being lazy, I've not actually sat and watched more than five minutes of the movie. Don't ask me why, I actually don't have an answer D:)

(Also, if that makes little actual sense, grammatically speaking...I blame my lack of cupcakes. *nods*)

Here's a tip: When watching the TVM, keep it muted until Eight shows up. I'm sorry, but the writing in the TVM makes me flinch so badly, gah. But McGann fucking owns it and saves that movie.

Or you can just eat popcorn and surf the internet while you watch it. If you appreciate things which are so bad they're good, some of the Doctorless scenes are all right. But not paying attention when he's not on screen (or when he's getting too, too silly) is totally fine, because whether or not you pay attention, you won't understand the plot.

It really is fun, though, in a sort of what-were-they-thinking way. And McGann is onscreen for most of it.

Depends on the writer.

Looking at you, Stephen Cole. :eyes Cole:

Yeah, Cole seemed to have something against Fitz in general. *grumbles* I find myself eyerolling on a regular basis every time I read one of his EDAs. But with most of the others, the fine line between text and subtext seems to be often crossed with amazing ease (the kennel scene in Mad Dogs and Englishmen has got to be one of my favourites).

WHAT. I meant Cole has a MASSIVE CRUSH ON FITZ. Now LANCE PARKIN, oh my god, no. No no no. Note to Parkin: Fitz wouldn't be vaguely racist to his friends, he was antagonized most of his life for being the son of a "Kraut."

:ahem:

Sorry. I cannot stand Parkin's Fitz portrayal. COLE on the other hand, Lullabee and I joke he's got a crush on Fitz. In his books Fitz is always even more of a focus than the Doctor. Let's run through them because it's almost 2 AM and I should be asleep but WHATEVER.

-In Parallel 59, Fitz gets to play messiah and has multiple loving girlfriends and smiles "angelically", meanwhile the Doctor's arc heavily implies he's a bit in love with Fitz.
-Ancestor Cell, the one where everyone looks at Father Kreiner and wants to hug the stuffing out of him for being a massive woobie.
-Vanishing Point, the one where the Doctor worries over Fitz's absence excessively, Fitz gets laid but also fucks up his leg so the Doctor can carry him bridal-style "almost romantically."
-I haven't read Timeless, but just the first ( ... )
