[... Well. She came here to check up on him, to let him know she's back to normal. But his little song is throwing her off a little.

Miniskirt harem, huh?]

[Sigh. It's a curse, this finding him cute even when he's stupid.

Anyway, on to business. She clears her throat and speaks with a voice decidedly more womanly (and slightly more amused) than the last time she spoke to him.]

Roy? How are you holding up?

[The first thing that catches his attention is the sound of her voice. So does this mean she's back to normal..?]

...that depends. How old are you?

Shouldn't you know better than to ask a woman a question like that?

I do, but the last time I saw you, you were about eleven, so you'll have to forgive me for that.

I am definitely not eleven anymore.

[But in all seriousness...]

I hope it wasn't too terrible for you. I know it can't have been easy.

It was... awkward. Really, really awkward.

I know. I'm sorry.

It seems even at that age I was rather persistent with you. But it did make her happy, to see you. It meant a lot that you made the effort despite how weird it must have been for you.

When were you not persistent with me?

There was nothing nice or admirable about it. I, um, kind of used her as a means of keeping Allison entertained.

[A shaky, hesitant laugh. It's a little weird to be talking about her to herself like this.]

Hughes had to ask me for directions to get her out of your closet. He said she was trying to hide from the person with all the guns.

[A little laugh.]

I suppose I've always known you needed some prodding.

[But let's be honest. Even Riza can barely see that little girl as "herself" and she was her, literally yesterday. She can't think of a more appropriate way to refer to the child than in the third person.]

She was. She never really admitted it, but she was terrified of guns. Luckily, she grew out of that.

[Oh, she asked for it, so with as straight a face as he can manage...]

Only so long as there aren't any handcuffs, collars, whips, or chains involved. Though... depending on the situation, I might could get behind that.

[But back to the little girl.]

She thinks a little too highly of me.

[When he pushes, she always must push back. But who can keep the straightest face for the longest time is really the question.]

You could, hm? I wonder what sort of situation might be appropriate for whips and chains.

[She drops her eyes, watches the floor. He can't see her, but she's smiling in the way a person smiles when she's not sure whether she's about to cry or not.]

No. Her faith is untested and unmarred, but she has the right idea.

[He is so not letting her win at this, dammit.]

Okay, maybe not chains per se... Rope might work better, or some sort of cording. A long scarf perhaps, since chains might be a little harsh on the skin. I think the hardest part of the whole thing would be trying to figure out which one of us has to submit.

[His tone softens, a weak smile tugging at his lips.]

...which is why I told her not to follow him. I'd rather she be allowed to keep that fantasy instead of being faced with the ugly reality.

[She has so got this.]

I should think the answer to that would be obvious.

[And she grows serious. She wasn't going to bring up the conversation her younger self had had with him about trying to change history, but since he's done it himself.]

She'd been facing ugly realities since she was five, Roy. Children must grow up, and some of them sooner than they'd like. But she was headed for a fall, no matter which way she took. Her choices were her own, and even if that eleven year old girl had agreed not to follow him, she would not have been the same person anymore by the time she actually made the decision.

[A smile spreads slowly across her face and her voice warms just a little with amusement.]

Besides, you should know how stubborn that girl is. You didn't think she'd take an order from you just like that, did you? Where it involves the matter of your life, you're the last person she'd listen to.

Oh, absolutely. I'd be sure to let you up if you begged, though.

[There's a pout in his voice.]

Good to know that your skills of insubordination were conceived at such a young age. You're awfully lucky I like you, you know.

I don't think I'll be the one doing the begging.

[And there's a smirk in hers.]

Someone has to keep you in check. All things considered, one might even say you're lucky I like you, too.

But speaking of insubordination, I finally got that promotion you would never give me. I'm a captain now.

[Smirky smirk, but only because she's teasing him.]
