Hi

I am sorry but I think you have taken what I have said completely the wrong way. Merlin slash does not gross me out. I won't make this reply lengthy because I think it will serve no purpose. I am sorry if I have offended you. That was definitely not my intention.

Perhaps it was unfair of me to assume you thought slash was "gross;" I do maintain, however, that it was an easy mistake to make, based on the seeming negativity of the rest of your comment. I do regret if I've made you uncomfortable, but I felt this reply was needed to fully examine and articulate the impressions your comment left me with.

This is a very eloquent response to a comment that left me scratching my head, furrowing my brow, and rolling my eyes at the same time (not a pretty picture, really). Thanks for the time and consideration you put into it. ♥

Thank you, I'm glad this metarantreply (I'm squishing all three words together because I feel that's what best describes it, LOL ^___~) could be of any help. <333!

P.S. That was a hilarious image, thank you for the giggles it gave me! =o)

Some interesting issues are raised here. My personal position is:

* fictional character fan-fic - pretty much anything goes except paedophilia, by which I mean older characters preying on underage children. Even though the fictional characters may be wearing an actor's image, there is still a clear boundary between the real person and the character.

* RPF including RPS - A much greyer area. We are using real people's names and when that person is - like Colin Morgan - uncomfortable with the idea of that usage, then I think it is disrespectful to do so. And what about a RP's mother reading it? Or his brother or his child? This is why I am uncomfortable with RPF. I think there are some privacy issues here.

I have never commented to this effect on a fic, though, because I don't think that is the way to make the point. I know that there are many high-quality RPF fics that have been written but, like paparazzi shots of intimate moments, for me this is a boundary too far.

Thank you for your input!

Re: FPF: Hmm, I know what squicks me in fic, and I know the kind of stuff that makes me go "ahhhh my eyes, who the hell let you in fandom???", but I haven't really figured out yet where my "oh hell to the no, wtf wtf" line is yet. I'll have to think about that ( ... )

I have to admit that in FPF the thing that hacks me off most is appalling grammar from those whose first language is English. I mean, someone writing in a second language obviously gets a lot more leeway ( ... )

To go back to the Colin Morgan example, he'd probably be uncomfortable knowing there's fic real person written about him and his costars, but he's also uncomfortable with his character getting paired with others in FPF.

I'm glad you said FPF and not FPS, because I don't think Colin just feels weird about the slash. I think he feels weird about the whole idea of people writing fanfiction, erotic fanfiction at that, about his character, getting it on with any other character (male OR female).

Just wanted to give my opinion on that. Fanfiction is still quite a touchy thing for some folks. And I understand.

Yes, yes, yes and yes. Also, anyone who thinks Merlin and Arthur are portrayed as nothing but friends is glooously naive. And, since it is widely agreed that the Arthurian legends had at least some grounding in real life figures, even the FPS is, arguably, RPS. About people who are dead and therefore can't even defend themselves.

In conclusion, they're just words. People can and will write whatever they like. I'd love to live in a world where people would just read what hey like and not read what they don't. For example, if one doesn't like slash and doesn't like RPS, why would one be on bradleycolin?

Arthur: Tell me, Merlin, do you know how to walk on your knees?
Merlin: #sweaty and writhing# Faster, Arthur, faster!
Slash Dragon: You and Arthur are two sides of the same coin, Merlin.
Gauis: You share a special destiny with Arthur, Merlin.
Hunith: Arthur cares for you a great deal, Merlin.
#Merlin and Arthur trade quips and longing looks, attempt to sacrifice their lives for each other on multiple occasions#
sheppardspie4te: slash is non existent in the tv show
Slashers: HAAAAAAAA

if one doesn't like slash and doesn't like RPS, why would one be on bradleycolin?
LOL, I have no idea! I mean, on the one hand, the discussion was about what was too invasive in RPS, so I can maybe see how claiming RPS itself is invasive is a contribution to the discussion (albeit, a pseudo-wanky one), but sheppardspie4te wasn't condemning all RPF, she was only condemning RPS (and, randomly, disparaging FPS as well, which wasn't even on-topic), and that double-standard (and ( ... )
