If my blood-sucking, partially-demonic, increasingly-morally-dubious character asked me for a one-on-one chat, I’d probably be, like, “Uh, how about no. With an extra side of no. Topped with a delicious sprinkle of additional no.”
*The Winchester Gospel? Are you fucking kidding me? Show, I go along with your shenanigans most of the time, but that’s WAY too self-indulgent.
I was completely fine with everything else. Seriously. IMO, if they really had a problem with fandom, slash and everything, they wouldn't have brought it up ON the fucking show, so it didn't squick me or anything. But The Winchester Gospel? Yeah, okay, NO.
Yeah, I don't really think they have a problem with fandom, I think they were just giving us a shoutout along with teasing us a little, but I was still a bit embarrassed that they actually directly referenced Wincest fans right there on the show. I mean, we usually hold onto some pretense of a fourth wall (generally), but I really wasn't expecting the show to smash a little hole in it.
And, yes, The Winchester Gospel was REALLY RIDICULOUSLY STUPID. I hope it was just written in as a joke or something and someone forgot to take it out again, cause, yeah, that was just lame. They got a bit too big-headed about their own mythology with that one.
This meta was awesome. I am a bit 50/50 with the whole religious deal also. I was cracking up with this episode. The laundry mat scene was really great. I am happy that SPN is back this week :D
I. Kind of have mad, fandommy love for this episode. I loved the reference to slash, actually, and Dean's horror over it, and, yes, especially the "for fans, they sure do complain a lot" thing. Because, somehow, it's like saying "it's OK, guys, we still love you. Now that we got that out of our system." But of course, Sam and Dean would be horrified (I am eternally amused that, next to Dean, Sam doesn't seem all that shocked. Not enough that he'd mention it to Dean upon discovering it. And I mean, CLEARLY he had to read some slash to know what it's about).
This being SPN, I pretty much assumed this would be the highlight of the episode, but it actually turned out to be a pretty good one. Self-referencing FTW!
