I've never understood this 'pumpkin pie' business of you Yanks. Can you explain the appeal?

I think it actually got its start in England, but I couldn't explain it to you any more than you could explain why you have a dish called 'toad in the hole'.

...On the other hand, if you can explain why it's called that...

Arguably we started the tradition of putting the American pumpkin into a pie, but we quickly came to our senses and stopped eating or making them. You lot keep consuming them year after year. Baffles me.

Toad in the hole? Oh, that's simple. There were originally toads involved.
