I think it actually got its start in England, but I couldn't explain it to you any more than you could explain why you have a dish called 'toad in the hole'.

Arguably we started the tradition of putting the American pumpkin into a pie, but we quickly came to our senses and stopped eating or making them. You lot keep consuming them year after year. Baffles me.
Toad in the hole? Oh, that's simple. There were originally toads involved.
Still NYC, darling, though I'm rather contemplating somewhere else for a bit. My publisher's talking about a book tour, but no dates or locations have been mentioned yet. *sighs* I think I'm feeling a touch of spring fever.
