I find this extremely interesting. Not from a stand point of that they ruined your show (I hate it when there is something about a particular show that you just love and then the writers have this "great" creative idea that runs your show into the ground for you.) That's what sounds like what happened, now I can't say for sure, since I'm just going off on what you have post and myself have only seen snippets of the show and probably season before this one. However, it sounds like the writers were going for mimicking in the show what happened as Christianity took root in the Roman Empire and its spread into Europe. Often times, as Christianity took root, other practices became illegal (depending on the area) or Christianity adopted some of the practices of the faith and brought in people that way to their own religion; in a since wiping out, killing, murdering the old religions, the old gods. I honestly don't care for this show much anyway (Xena rubs me the wrong way), but I can understand to a degree. I've had favorite shows that I've been so disappointed over the writers and their apparent loss of brain matter. I have to wonder if sometimes they don't paint themselves into corners and then think, "Well shit, how do we get out of this now?"
I wonder if it's because of big shows having several writers working on scripts? *Shrug* I mean, I think of Buffy and Marti was the cause of so much WRONG on that show that Joss wasn't a part of.
