(do I have to point out that the yay is sarcastic? well, just in case...)
I kept lying to myself all morning. I'm not that sick. I'll be better in the afternoon. Pshaw. I called work two hours before my shift was supposed to begin and said, "Look, I know it's really late to call in, so I'll come and cover the start of my shift, but could you

Secondly, i know the article was all about the coolness that is Canada's views of same-sex couples, but that still didn't stop my brain from hurting when the other people were going on and on about 3 parent families being a huge deal. Because if a heterosexual couple got divorced and both remarried other heterosexuals in theory that child or group of children could have four parents that perhaps actually function as parents (okay must pause to shake the Marmalade Boy flash from my head). I'm also now recalling the h.s. graduation episode of Gilmore Girls where all of Madison's father's ex-wives showed up--which apparently numbered in double digits. So... my only question now is...if Jane and Jim were married and had baby Joseph, and Jane left Jim because he was an ass and married Jerry. And little Joey lived with Jane and Jerry until she died suddenly, would Jerry have parental rights of Joe if he hadn't formally adopted him? Or does only Jim have ( ... )

Step-parents do not have full parental rights unless they adopt the kid. Day-to-day, I don't think that means too much, but it would definitely make a difference if something were to happen to the blood-related parent. My knowledge is vague and based mainly on remembering how happy my best friend growing up was when her step-dad officially adopted her.

And that's what I thought which is why when I read that article I skipped over most of the same-sex parent talk and went straight for the...that's effin' HUGE...i mean landmark type decision there...assuming it's not appealed and all...but dude, the rights of the step-parent who helps raise you but doesn't adopt you just elevated--though perhaps only if you go through this process BEFORE something should go awry with life-as-planned.
which also made me go...laws aren't different on this front in Canada, riiight? I mean until 'now'.

Anyway, you know my family - we communicate through sarcasm. House just speaks my language - but not subvocally the way I tend to. ^_^ Also, having the traditional medical establishment portrayed as usually blind/wrong doesn't hurt, what with sis's long history of dealing with know-it-alls who don't listen to patients.
I don't know. I like the writing. I think I would probably hate House 15 minutes after meeting him if he were real, but I appreciate snark in a character.

And I don't like snark in characters. So that's the difference, I guess.
I will remain in the 1% ;)

I think I got through about half of a random episode one day when nothing else was on and had to change the channel to something, anything else. I may at that moment have put up with american idol for the remaining half an hour (had it been on)--I think I actually just left the house to do something else. And AI is the only thing that thus far usually hurts my soul to watch, but damn House is starting to make it more into a list. (sorry, hime-sama)
