One of my books has a hole bored in it! By a BUG. Eek! And though it's just a mass market, I just pulled it off the shelf with my OLD books -- including the copy of Arabian Nights Grandpa took to basic during WWII and a copy of Die Heilige Schrift that belong to my great great (great?) aunt. I AM NOT HAPPY and SCARED TO LOOK

I've had on-purpose rodents in the house (pet mice and gerbils and so on), so I think I'd recognize the signs of the wild versions. This is definitely insect related. It really looks like someone bored into the book from the top, and the hole is the right width to match your description, though it doesn't penetrate the book very far -- which is why I'm worried for the other books.

I'm going to go stick this one in the freezer. Thanks for the tip!
