Whee. I've not been around much at all. And I have tabs open dating back to October 29th. At this point, I feel like any comment is a bit superfluous, but I also feel bad about not responding. Hm ( Read more... )

We shall make frowny faces of agreement at each other!

The full and correct title is The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer (I persist in dropping part of the actual title along with the subtitle every time I mention it). It's a history of cancer from ancient times through the present and the various ways cancer has been conceptualized -- and the ways those definitions have shaped the ways doctors try to combat it/study it. It really should be much more depressing than it is, but the author (himself an oncologist) has a very engaging style.

In backwards order!

I am a HUGE fan of Smart Bitches. Basically, I'm a fan of any site with reviewers who both clearly love their chosen genre and are willing to say, "this particular book, however, is not good!"

I think there are some Kandel books around the house from either my sis or my mom. *makes note to check them out* Sadly for someone who often does enjoy chick lit (and more traditional romances), I have hit a slew of mystery and paranormal/fantasy series lately with a romantic side story that doesn't do it for me at all. In fact, I stopped following a mystery series when I realized I just wanted the main character and her boyfriend to break up, already, and that this was never going to happen.

Eek! Sometimes, starting a fic over is the best choice, but it's definitely frustrating!. ... says the girl who is on idea three for hers. (But one of the first two was just story notes, and the other hadn't progressed very far. Idea three is good!)
