The first of my 100 things is something I was going to blog about anyway: I went to a knitting fair last Friday.
My "loot":
- 2 25g balls of Austermann Merino Lace in green & blue. I'm thinking they'll become a striped scarf or shawl.
- A 100g ball of Grignasco Merinosilk in red. The picture doesn't show it very well, but that ball is much larger than the other two. This will become a vintage-like cropped shirt. I'm still looking for the right pattern.
- A small bag of orange, white and near-black spinning fibre. The black is Shetland wool, the orange is Merino, and I think the white is BFL. These are the colours of the Landelijke Spingroep, the national spinning association, which I joined at the fair. The people at the stand were incredibly nice, and I got a few email addresses so I can contact them to spin together some time. :D
Another thing I got at the spinners' stand:
It's a spindle made out of two cd's. I'd heard of this type of spindle, but used to scoff at the notion that it would be any good. I was wrong - boy was I wrong! It's divine. The yarn I'm spinning on it now is by far the most even and soft yarn I ever spun, and it's so much fun to make it.
The fair itself was fun, though very busy and a bit cramped - the isles between the stall were too narrow. Coming from tiny little me, who can usually squeeze through the gaps, this says a lot.
But other than that, it was amazing. So many gorgeous yarns in beautiful colours, and so, so soft. It was quite overwhelming, and it's so hard to choose just a few yarns to take home. I had made a list of yarns/types of yarn I wanted to look for, which helped me to keep track of the tremendous amounts of yarn. I made a list of my favourite yarns, a sort of wishlist. And I collected at least a dozen business cards to keep track of where to buy the yarn.
I had saved a fair amount of money for this, but ended up spending relatively little. This was due, in part, to a stand that didn't haven enough balls of yarn with them. I needed 8 balls for a jacket, but since they didn't have it at the fair I ordered it online later.
All in all, it was a very successful day.
