This is part 2 of the story Reunion, which in itself is part of my Immortal Giles series. The first chapter can be found here and you can also read the first two stories Recollections & Revelations and School of Hard Knocks.

really nice story, I am hooked, and it's only been four chapters!
However, one tiny little mistake in there: the German phrase should be "Würden Sie Deutsch bevorzugen?" or, since "bevorzugen" is very formal, more colloquially "Würden Sie lieber Deutsch sprechen?" "Deutsches" is an adjective almost always used with some noun to go with it, such as "Deutsches Theater". "Deutsches" without anything to accompany it means something like "German stuff".

Ah, thank you *toddles off to correct*. Is the more formal sentence the more appropriate for a priest to say to a stranger 200 years ago?
My German is rusty to say the least :).

Glad you're enjoying, more is forthcoming.

yey, can't wait!

Would formal be appropriate? Probably. I mean, priests are usually all "brother, let's be friends", but then this is Darius and it was 200 years ago. Come to think of it, maybe the language should even be more old-fashioned. 200 years ago people adressed each other - formally that is - with "Ihr"(you, plural) rather than the more modern "Sie"(they). The sentence would then be "Würdet Ihr Deutsch bevorzugen" - sounds very aristocratic/well educated/extremely polite ...

Thanks, I'll take that on board (and probably avoid writing anything in German ever again *g*)
