We've often discussed criminal accents in shows and movies, usually Scottish or Irish but I was just watching the Forever Knight episode 'Queen of Harps' and I had to stop to ask just what the frell kind of Welsh accent that's supposed to be?! Not only does the modern day Welsh Lord sound Scottish, so does the woman with the harp in the flashback ( ( Read more... )

Ah, if only that were the only problem with tv shows... I despair of how badly LA pictures NYC. It's not that difficult to get the small things right but alas. It apparently, is too difficult.

Are things still as bad as they used to be though? The US version of Britain (or maybe I should say England since US filmakers seemed to forget the existence of the rest of the UK back in the day!) used to be atrocious (let's face it, Austin Powers didn't exaggerate that aspect of old movies) but it seems to be better now.

I think it depends on the show and, more importantly the writers. For instance, an episode of Castle from two weeks ago, captured a very NYC phenomena, that is the way each Ray's Pizza joint claims to be the 'original.' On the other hand, last week's episode of the same show made several errors that just belied the previous weeks 'NY-ness.' Simple things, like referring to elevated trains as 'Els' (that is a Chicago thing) or the physical appearance of one of the guest stars, which went against everything she was supposed to be ( ... )

LOL! Talk about a feeling of deja vu reading your post. Back in the day, when it originally aired, much was said about the accents in the episode.

I can imagine! Sheesh, they were worse than Sheena Easton's Oirish accent on Highlander! XD

You'd think that Geraint could have just had a quiet word with the actors. Or they could have hired Welsh actors. Novel idea I know, but it might work!! *grin*
