The Australian has also been blatantly, overtly political recently. It has always had a right-wing slant, but its recent headlines read as though written by a particularly shameless government propagandist. It's both annoying and a little frightening that the mainstream "news" media do this, because they do have so much power.

but journalism has never really been unbiased or claimed that it should be - it should just be free - free from control by the government. The trouble here is lack of diversity of opinion. You'd both love Israel which has something like 60 daily newspapers in like 50 languages or something. *That's* free press.

I only glanced at the West, and didn't know what they were talking about, so I had assumed the govt had done something I'd hate, but I was still completely appalled by that front page. I'm kind of glad to know that I reacted that way regardless of my opinion on what they were "reporting" on.

They had some sort of "and this is how you protest to the govt"! phone numbers or something!

I can't imagine how long it took you to write this up.
