I enjoyed Studio 60 very much; it wasn't until after its run that I heard people talking about how the sketches weren't very funny, and I thought, "Well, yeah. SNL feels like that too." And it wasn't long ago that I actually watched SNL for the first time in years and years and, holy cripes, SNL got FUNNY again. When and how did that happen?
yeah, it's weird, isn't it - though I saw some recently and they'd gone back to un-funny. But I think Matt & Danny were supposed to be the ones who made it funny again, and they didn't - if they are the ones who make it deadly & unfunny, it doesn't work. Also, I felt like the sketches were unfunny (or slightly funny) in a different way from SNL. It was like the type of humor on SNL is just a language he doesn't speak at all.
OMG, do I rememberbthat ep of ER! I was almost 7 months pregnant with Miss I, and Mr Smith was away and I watched it in horror. At work the next day, my supervisor was verklempt, telling me 'that's so rare- it never happens!'. The next month I was on bedrest with pre-eclampsia!
I remember! I remember that I wanted to ask you if you'd seen it, because I thought it was such great TV, but I was afraid to - the last thing I wanted was for you to watch it if you'd somehow managed to miss it. And of course you had. Poor Suz!
Listen hon I was going to email you. Er - yeah, I think I'll just email you tomorrow from work. Short form: I'll be in Boston this weekend. Addendum: things are not OK w. my dad (the diagnosis we were told he didn't have it turns out he does have after all).
I guess that's most of what I would have said in the email...
Who's in your icon? That's your new show, isn't it?
That is Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens from "Justified."
Sorry about your Dad. Is there more info, a corrcted diagnosis? I'll be around all weekend. My only constrained time is 2-5 on Saturday, as I'll be helping backstage at Rosalind's show. Let me know what your sched is.
Yeah, the current belief (and it fits better with what we're seeing, which is a precipitous and potentially calamitous cognitive decline) is that he has "atypical" Alzheimer's - atypical in that it's affecting different parts of his brain than is typical. More frontal/parietal.
I am getting a ride up on Saturday afternoon. Monday night is the first night of Passover & I'm taking dad to a seder in Lexington. Tuesday I'll come back to NY. I'll email/ call you.
