Analytical review of a small, silly fic by Speranza

Aug 12, 2005 10:57

I absolutely adored Speranza's (cesperanza) "slave fic" for SG:A, When in Haldoria, which she says she's a bit embarrassed about and ascribes to "Lady Crackhead of Andoria." I had a few thoughts on it that I sent to her, and I thought I'd share them with you. I think this fic, as I read it, has an interesting reflection to cast on more "serious" slave fics ( Read more... )

I've been thinking about your remark that the fanfic is really the reason to watch SGA at all, and of course, now that I watch SGA like a mad devoted thing, I bridle at any such slight to my beloved show, but, um, yeah. You're right. I only watched the show in the first place because I had read the fanfic, and fallen in love with it. The show is there to illuminate the fanfic, in an interesting little flip-flop of the way things normally work. Or maybe that should be, the way they work for normal people.

I enjoy the show much more since reading some fic! There's such a sweetness about it...

I have to read that fic, for sure. It sounds great. Do you think it's necessary to see at least one episode of the show first?

Hm. I've been enjoying the show a lot more since I read some fic (and I think you'll really be charmed by this). So no, it's not necessary, but it couldn't hurt- I mean, it definitely helps me to have some sense of the characters before I read any fic. And of the feel of the canon, which in this case is... bland, in a nice way. It's probably repeated on the sci fi channel about 5 times a week...

See my lj for a pointer to "SGA in a Nutshell"! Which is no substitute for, like, actual canon.
