"N-no! That's not..." she turned and shielded the puppy, worried that Nanoha was going to take him away due to the misunderstanding.

"I love him. It's just..." she sat on Nanoha's bed and placed the puppy onto her lap. "When I think about you living in your apartment all alone and think about how I'd feel without a roommate, I get worried."

She pet the puppy. "I don't want you to feel lonely, Nanoha. But I really do love Arf."

"Oh."

Nanoha looked down at the other girl for a few quiet moments before she moved to sit next to her on the edge of the bed. Her hands were folded in her lap.

"I guess it is a bit lonely sometimes," she said. "But Fate-chan shouldn't worry. I'm all right."

She reached out and patted Arf's head. "But.. if you really want him to stay with me.. if that would make you not worry so much, Fate-chan, then that's okay with me."

"That would make me happy. I promise to come every day and see and play with Arf." Ignore the fact that she already came to visit everyday.

"Besides," she looked down at the puppy, who seemed to be falling asleep in her lap. "Arf will be able to protect Nanoha when I'm not around."

"Hey!" she called out, sounding slightly indignant. The girl's chest puffed out, and her shoulders squared. "I can protect myself!"

She hmmphed and turned her head away, arms folding across her breasts. She sat like that for a moment or two, before cracking one blue eye open and looking at both Fate and Arf. She tried to hold her pout for as long as possible but couldn't help dissolving into a girlish grin.

"But with such cute help around, I guess I can't complain," she then winked at Fate before gently stroking Arf's back.

Despite being oblivious to the fact that she was included in the 'cute help', Fate smiled and nodded. The other woman's fake pouting had made her giggle.

"Don't worry, Nanoha, we'll do our best to protect you. Right, Arf?" The puppy simply yawned in response.
