On the agreement side, sometimes, I think that (myself included) poets get bogged down with symbolism/metaphors that our meanings/intent behind the poem(s) are often lost, or, individual work(s) are sometimes laced with references that are only understood by those who have been exposed to the same influences and/or have knowledge of what's been referenced- i.e., this poem of mine which references both Jack Kerouac and Jack London.
On the disagreement side- Sometimes poems (and other types of artistic output) are written without any obscure references, and are rendered so as not to require a rosetta stone to decode i.e. this poem of mine ( ... )
