The snow is melting rapidly in places where the sun shines. On the south side of our streets the sidewalks are iced over. You'd think the Rational Economic Person who owned, say, a cheap hamburger franchise, would shovel the sidewalk for fear of being bankrupted by slip & fall lawsuits. I used to have a pair of waffle-stompers! I still do, actually, except that I don't call them that. I haven't heard that term in years. Decades, actually.

Glad to hear you're digging out. We're about to get more (although it will be measured in inches, not feet, fortunately).

Bought my first pair when they first came out. The 1980s? 1970s?

The current pair is so much lighter! Now to decide what to do with the old pair. I wouldn't wish them on the homeless unless the alternative is someone going barefoot.

It's gotten a little better in my neck of the woods, this urban jungle, but still the snow lingers. Maybe more will be gone by Friday and the next snow fall :-)

Hm. In Germany, the law reqiures a homeowner (or the person who lives in it, in case of a rented place) to keep the sidewalk clear of snow. Either by shoveling or by paying someone to shovel. This is what you gotta do in return for your share of the road. Not totally unreasonable, IMHO.
