"It is up to her to inform them that when she has "that look" in her eyes,
it does not mean she is a vacant lot waiting to be filled.
It means she is balancing a big cardhouse of ideas on a single fingertip,
and she is carefully connecting all the cards using tiny crystalline bones
and a little spit, and if she can just get it all to the table ( Read more... )

WWRWtW never stops being an awesome, deeply meaningful book. I get something new from it every time I read it. There's always something in there that I need to hear.

Like a strong woman should, she can be so affirming, and yet deliver a kick in the pants. ^_^

Plus, her way with words sparkles sometimes. I love reading the retellings she's put together...like the passage above with the "crystalline bones and a little spit", such a vivid picture. Not always comfortable, but sharp.

If you poke around online, too, you can find interviews with her. She's amazing there, too. Actually, some of the best stuff she's said, IMO, was in interviews. Fascinating and wonderful lady.

You do know that Dana is a good friend of hers, he talks about her frequently.
In fact we have the computer that book was written on in a box in the garage.

I did *not*...I haven't heard Dana talk much, so it's understandable. That's really cool. ^_^

Dana is really quiet and really hard to get to know, but he is such an amazing guy.

The computer is like a big plastic brick. It's hard to imagine anyone writing on it, yet wonderful just the same.

I am trying to figure out what to DO with the thing. I mean, how does one display something like that to best effect?

Re: Buffy: I did a similar bounce off Deadwood. I wish I could watch it, because people I trust tell me it's brilliant, and their use of language is amazing, but I just couldn't handle the violence -- way beyond my comfort zone.

And, yes, Hulu is totally legal. :-)

I was popping in to vouch for the legality of hulu, but I see it's been vouched. :)

Joss Whedon (the writer/creator of Buffy) is one of my favorite screenwriters, possibly one of my favorite writers. I couldn't quite handle Buffy or Angel myself, but I've watched ALL of his other stuff. Try Firefly, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, or Dollhouse (all on Hulu) same great wit, less blatant gore.

I'm surprised you don't have more Whedonites who read your blog, I would have thought it was exactly your kind of thing. :\

Oh, I do. They just don't comment. ^_^

I've watched Dr. Horrible. (Very awesome.) I may at some point take a peek at Firefly because it's fandom is VERY vocal around here. (But for some reason that's one of the few things I've gotten contrary about.)

Oh wait...operative word being "read"...

Whedonites are many in my cyber-world. Not necessarily in my "readership", I guess.
