{...I think I'm listening to Jeff Buckley for the first time. Is this possible? I know the name like it's important...}

So I've been falling for Shoujo Rom-Com (that may sound like a redundancy, but bear with me) lately.

Another instance of me succumbing to a love that brands me for an Uber-Nerd. I'm not complaining...it's more of a self- ( Read more... )

Interesting new layout... Vampire Knight is an anime show I watched a lot I figured there was a manga but you should check out the anime. It's really cool even if I don't agree with the ending.

Yeah, I actually looked at the show a little--I like it better than the manga, I think, but only a little. (And probably because I watch so little of anything I'm less picky...)

How long did it run?

Okay, I read the first volume of Skip Beat ages ago, and now you inspired be to go drag home the second from the manual--and man, I had forgotten how awesomely funny that manga is. I think my favorite part is how Kyoko is an earnest shoujo heroine following her dreams...only motivated by pure, unrelenting hatred.

And YES about the intersection of cracktastic melodrama and humor! That is the main reason I read manga...that, and the pretty, pretty pictures...

Vampire Knight is...eh. I started reading it for the angst'n'melodrama (which it does deliver in spades), but the blood = sex thing only gets kinkier, and it ends up...um...I felt like the autor was trying to portray a relationship as sweet and romantic, but it seemed to me inescapably icky and messed-up. That kind of values dissonance does not, for me, make a fun reading experience, so...yeah.

I'm glad to know that about Vampire Knight. Really, I don't see how it *couldn't* go that way (I got ahead of the volumes I've read by watching the show online a bit), but at least I've got a second opinion.

Um. Anything you recommend? I'm caught up on Skip-Beat chapters and episodes. It's...tragical.

Love the icon.
I have decided the next volume of Full-Metal Alchemist is lost forever, so I need to skip it or something...I like the comics, not the show so much.
Other than that, I'm relying on a friend with very different tastes as my purveyor, and I need a little more love from the comics world.

(Lots of suggestions is good: I have to try and find library stuff at this point, and while mine is pretty good with selection, it can't be perfect.)

I get kind of tired of the fighting part of shounen (though I don't have any objections to it), so maybe I'll be avoiding Bleach?

The cheesy trope I know is bad and yet am drawn to, and would love to use (...again. There, I've said it) is the whole physical-contact-by-chance thing. Having to carry a wounded person. (The reversal on that in Ever After *got me*.)

Fushigi Yuugi is actually the second comic I read. I read a whole spate of the beginning ones, and then skipped to the end, because my friend was moving back home (from Japan). I got tired of the walking-in-on-her-naked theme. (I got tired of that in Inuyasha, too, though that was more like a phase than a theme...a phase that got resurrected every once in a while...okay, so I just put up with it.)

I'm definitely going to have to look at Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, because that just grabs me, flaws revealed and all.

The other ones sound likely to, I'll let you know how I do.
