unpopular opinions! on nerd specialty subjects

I watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last week, and it was fun, Shia was adorable (can't say the same in this latest Transformers, he's kinda an ass) and the aliens camptastic...

I think I know why people didn't think it was awesome.

I think it's because they forgot that the originals were kinda cheesy and politically ( Read more... )

If you want to watch the sequel to TRON, that's fine. But what you should really do is watch the deleted make-out scene that was included in the 20th anniversary edition DVD. I so happen to have the link available. :)

I was actually not about the romance in this one! ...mainly because I don't like the still-attracted-exes dynamic much. But thanks for the link!

I enjoyed Crystal Skull too. Sure, it had its lame bits, but Indiana and Marion finally get married! HOW IS THAT NOT AWESOME I HAVE ONLY BEEN WAITING FOR IT SINCE I WAS TWELVE.

Aww, yeah, that must be awesome. I was really excited about watching the guys meet, myself, watching them be such awesome partners even though they have no relationship they know of. They're so obviously the same type of man! It's great.

I actually liked Tron:Legacy a lot, so hopefully you will, too. Watching Michael Sheen camp it up was awesome, it had some neat action sequences, and a truly kickass soundtrack, which I have listened to like ten million times already.

I was not a fan of IJatKotCS. I only watched it once, which was not enough for me to determine where my dislike came from, so I don't feel qualified to discuss WHY it sucked for me. I do know that of the other three movies, the Grail movie was by far my favorite.

That's cool! Apparently I misremembered whether people liked it or not.

I totally get why it's not a movie for everyone, (several things amused me that could have been dealbreakers if they didn't) but the reviews about it being a disappointment just struck me a little odd...

I think the thing I missed most about Crystal Skull was the lack of religion, to be honest. No Holy Grail, no Ark of the Covenant, no crazy heart-eating KALIMAAAA, nothing. Just aliens. And man, I didn't watch Indy for aliens; I wanted him for semi-mystical archaeology with dubious religious implications. :(

ALSO. TRON. I LOVE THAT MOVIE SO MUCH. I used to have a ton of macros of Sark saying END OF LINE but now I don't know where any of them are :(

I thought that was interesting, but since I've only seen the first once...I can see why this plot would have less philosophical resonance XD though it kind of tried?

I felt pretty satisfied by the points of "what happens when he gets old?" and "Who does he end up with?" If it had just been Marion I would have been okay with it--because there's Mutt, it's too adorable. And it seems realistic for Indy, really...he wouldn't have been happy settling down earlier, and maybe Mutt did better having steadier father-figures earlier in his life...

Dittoing what Quark said--the aliens were okay but not nearly as awesome as the Grail or the Ark. (My family skipped Temple of Doom, and from what I've seen of it, I don't mind missing it.) I basically liked everything else about Crystal Skull, because I love Shia and ALSO I LOVE SURPRISE SECRET CHILDREN AND ALSO INDY AND MARION GOT MARRIED WHICH I ALSO HAD BEEN WAITING FOR SINCE I WAS TWELVE but I only had to wait like tenish years so not that bad really.

and DEFINITELY bother watching the new Tron, even though omg it too totally fits into my new "science fiction is becoming syfy" thing I just came up with. But oh man I went to see it in I-MAX with Gingerbread (Lovie's boyfriend) and it was awesome.

Yay, I will! I think its the kind of movie I find fun anyhow, which is why I was determined to, but seems a lot of my people think it's worth watching anyway.
