Nobody Will Read This Anyway Sunday: PASTA mid-term review

Pasta is getting more and more fetching as it goes along--the strength is the characters, rather than the plot or the cinematography, so the way it's unfolding makes a lot of sense.

It is, however, still a rare specimen in that way.

The one I've really been won over by is Secondary Lead Man San, who is decently matched against my top middle-aged ( Read more... )

and his heartbreak is starting in realizing his mistake--how hard is that, realizing it's real because you've lost your chance?

Yes, yes, YES.

:D I'm so glad you're still enjoying this one. I didn't expect to love Pasta as much as I did -- it's certainly the characters that sold it for me. And, guh. THE FOOOOOOOOOOD. And the kitchen dynamics. Such a lot going on...

I'm not much of a fan of the whole prop-to-break-his-heart-over-the-heroine character of K-drama--but lately I've seen much more nuanced treatments of it, which is nice. (I don't like the ones where they're so sweet you just wish they weren't in the story so you didn't have to feel bad for them.)

But Sungkyunkwan did a great job with making it seem less like a heart-tenderizer role and instead a full-blooded character who was down on his luck this time around Romance, as I think we talked about at the time? Dream High did a great reversal, too. It's all about the writer, I guess.

And yeah, about Pasta...I was kind of sold on it by going back over the DramaBeans description over it. I thought I'd tried 15 minutes of it, and didn't get caught, but it had only been more like 5. Or even 3. And I wasn't in the mood to start a new show.

This past few weeks, with the finishing of My Princess and Dream High, was quite the right time.
