I believe our party's just begun, so here's to you and here's to everyone

Eleven days until Dragon*Con. It suddenly seems so overwhelming and stressful, though I know that once I'm there all of that will be gone. I'll be so happy to simply be there and see everybody again. I almost feel, though, that AoME is getting too big. I know we're trying to get more recognition and such, but I kind of liked the way it was ( Read more... )

Come to the Phelps Q&A on Sunday and I'll be moderating. Coure I'll be all there panels since I'm on YALit staff, but then I'll be up front. *gasp!*

"announcing him (Whedon) as a guest is going to draw the largest and most obnoxious crowds the con has ever seen"

It is going to be crazy!

Cool. I'll come to the Q&A if I can even get in the door. I imagine it'll be fairly crowded.

All the crowds that Whedon (whether he's there or not) is going to draw are the only negative aspect of DCon this year. There are a lot of folks coming just because he's on the guest list. Crazy.

I suppose always having a seat is the nice thing about being on staff. I'll be videoing at least one of the talks, so if you miss out on them all let me know and I'll get you a copy of the tape if you want.

"folks coming just because he's on the guest list. "

E-zactly. And of course all those Firefly people. I love FF, but I also like a "small" con with out a lot of crazy fans! Oh wait a minute... I think I'm one of those crazy fans... :-P
Well, not exactly. Plus Robert Jordan will be there, so I think that'll draw a big crow. HP guest, FireFly guests, authors, does it get any bigger?

I had forgotten about Robert Jordan. While I don't think his presence at the con will be as bit as Whedon's or the Phelps', he'll definitely draw a good sized crowd.

I might take you up on the offer of a taped copy of the Q&A if I can't get in...

*Phelps twins envy* You're such a complete bitch, Hannah. :P Not only bragging about how fabulous your corset is, how you'll get to see the Phelps twins in person, and then you throw in an ever so cute quote from your boyfriend. I might have to disown you, Hannah......

You're such a Leo.

Us get to big? never..well actually I find myself thinking the same thing. Back when their weren't groups envious of us for doing something, no member issues, and alot less drama. However I know there are a few like you and me (including dustagorn) that are part of the original group that started it all. I just hope there isn't to much drama this con.

Screw the crowds and those whiny ass fans who cause drama when all they have to do is stand in line and behave (while enjoying themselves). I plan to meet the twins but other than that the others can kiss my firey ass! HA!

I don't think there will be very much drama once we get to the con. Most of it is likely to take place over the internet (where people aren't as cowardly as they are face to face) either before or after the actual event. I don't mind the group growing, but I dislike the "competition" that suddenly comes from other groups and the conflict between all the members. I think the people who were in the original group will have the friendship and connection long after AoME has ceased to be THE LotR fangroup at DCon.

my thoughts... hazelrah1 August 22 2005, 04:20:11 UTC
Yeah sometimes smaller is better. I just think that when people see a group click as well as this one did...well they just want to be a part of it also. I think if everyone can remember that we came together for the main purpose of Fellowship then everything else just seems trivial. I think most of the problems between fan groups comes from the desire that people have to belong to a community. Once they are accepted into one then they defend it strongly because for most people it becomes their family. Of course then this creates the exact environment that most people were looking to avoid when they sought out a fan group. It becomes one where people become clicky and leave out others. Either way, I think we have all made friends from AOME that will last through it all.
As for the Weasley Twins, They are mine!!! HAHAHAHA Don't make me sic my family on you. ;)
Seriously, Rog and I are going to have one heck of a time meeting them and working the Tolkien Track.
