Oh, yes! And:

"What are we going to do now?"
"You decide."

(Boys, the bath-house is at the bottom of the colonnade on the left...)

Great review - of all the IMPORTANT bits. Anyone can re-tell a plot and comment on the acting. We want to know precisely about the mud and the battles and the leather and the slash - but I wonder why.......

And the rain and the thatched huts and the boar-hunt and the horse-grooming and the autumnal forests...

I would have liked a bit more basis for Marcus' belief that Esca won't simply kill him once they get out of Roman territory (especially given that the film doesn't have Esca freed until very late on in proceedings)

Well, if he'd freed him earlier I suppose it would have made the role reversal less effective ... I guess Marcus just took Esca's word for it - and he hadn't tried to escape on the way back from the Arena.

I thought there ended up being a lot more lost legion Romans at the end (dead and alive) than there were when they showed up - I kept thinking "surely the Picts have killed them all by now." Also, I found the bit where Esca is running a bit frustrating - not knowing where he was going.

Minor quibbles though.

You know, now you come to mention it, there was a bigger pile of bodies at the end of that fight than the very small rescue party could account for... maybe some of them were a bit slow to arrive, being a bit old and creaky?
