Further re water "exports"... yup, this is one of the many reasons I'm so opposed to the SPP.

As you point out, it's so important to recognize how much everything is interrelated... corporate greed begets branded messaging that makes citizens passive, which facilitates further greed until we have nothing left. not even the most basic of life sustaining elements.

Ontario may charge water bottlers

TORONTO -- Ontario is considering charging bottled water companies more than a "token" fee for the water they take from the province's lakes, streams and aquifers, Premier Dalton McGuinty said Wednesday.

Nestle Canada Inc. was recently given the green light by the Environment Ministry to take 1.3 billion litres of groundwater A YEAR from an area near Guelph for only the cost of a $3,000 application fee.

Thanks for drawing my attention to this. Nice to see McGuinty doing something right and getting the ball rolling, but firmer action would be preferable. True enough, not many provincial leaders would have the guts.

As an aside, I also appreciate hearing that he recently declared public transit an essential service. True words, indeed!
