Ness knew right away that he and Lucas would be friends. He had gotten used to being the only person who could use PSI Powers in the tournament. It gave him a certain advantage over everyone else--they didn't really understand his powers, so they always assumed, at first glance, that the kid with the bat wasn't going to be much of a challenge. As friendly as he was off the battlefield, everyone assumed he was too normal to do any damage. They were, obviously, mistaken.

When the third year for the tournament came around, and everyone had met back up at the Mansion, it was to everyone's shock that, this year, there would be another PSI user on the roster. Ness felt, automatically, that he'd made a new friend. Someone who could understand him, his power, and where he'd come from. Not to mention, he'd heard it was another boy around his age
