My holiday weekend (which started at about 11 a.m. on Thursday) was deeply gratifying, but it had some difficult/distressing parts as well, and was also the busiest and most physically demanding I've had in a long time. (This was supposed to be a *light* year. Apparently my definition of "light" doesn't match any kind of objective reality.) I ( Read more... )

Thank for having us, and thank you for welcoming all of us, even a wailing baby.

We like your wailing baby (well, okay, not the wailing part so much, but the baby part for sure)--she's hilarious. :) And I always love welcoming you into our house and hope we can do it much more frequently over the next year-ish.

Yay! Thank you! I'm going to check at QFC, the U-Village one has a decent wine section, so maybe we'll get lucky. ;D

Thank you again for the chance to visit with you and Kevin. I had a lovely time, and it was nice to also get some furry loves. :D

You are totally welcome, and we loved having you here and being able to chat for a good long time. And it was really sweet that Kaga asked for your attention like that--while he can be pretty friendly in general, he's not always so immediately "I like you, I wanna be with you." He clearly likes you very much. :)

Re the wine: I didn't see the Arabica specifically when I was at that store last week, but they do carry several of the other Pasek wines and I'm reasonably sure I've seen it there once or twice in the past. Look on the shelf that's on the back wall of the wine section, the one right next to the "special" room--that's where it's most likely to be. And ask their wine steward if you don't see it; he might at least be able to tell you if they're planning to get it in. (You can always order it from Pasek directly as well, but of course then you pay shipping.)

Thanks for coming. I'm just sorry it had to come at the end of a long day for you--I wasn't at all surprised that you faded quickly. I hope you at least enjoyed some of it. :)

Glad you made it through relatively unscathed and happy!

I would have loved to have seen Kaga & the baby. Did he try to kill it, or scramble wildly away, screaming "Make it stop!!!!!"?

The baby was in the downstairs bathroom with the door closed (with her father, not alone), and he initially was poking around and crying himself because somebody had shut the door on him. Then she let loose, and he got this expression on his face that was a mix of confusion and incomprehension and horror--"WTF is that noise?!? It's horrible!!!" And after about a minute of trying to figure out what it was and whether it was a threat, he decided he'd be happier upstairs, far away from it, and slunk away rather rapidly. I don't know what his reaction would have been if he'd been able to see her.

You never know. When I was a wee baby, we had a cat who lived outside only. When I cried inside, she always came to the window to look in. When I cried outside, she came over and rubbed against me and patted at me with her paw.

Although somehow I picture Kaga more as the "lay on the hole that's making the noise until it stops" type.

You're a great hostess, and OH THOSE MERINGUES.

On another note, when we left you, we walked around downtown to take in the lights and the gingerbread, and I finally found the Fluevog store. I hadn't looked for it because I didn't want to be tempted. I am pretty sure I was making those chattering noises cats make when they are stalking birds.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm not going to apologize for the Fluevog store, though I totally understand that noise.

I also wish to note that your husband is even more hilarious in person than he is in words or ink. The two of you are just pure distilled awesome together.
