Now it's just getting ridiculous

It seems that when my mother found herself downtown again on Saturday, she couldn't resist going back to the Fluevog store. And on this excursion, she bought herself a style that I *already* own--in fact, the ones I posted about having an extra pair of last week. (However, she wears a different size than I do, so I couldn't have sold them to her ( Read more... )

"But Squish is *always* the one who finishes the fights."

That's my boy!

It's worth noting that "finishing" a fight sometimes entails simply refusing to engage anymore. But that in itself is pretty remarkable, because when Kaga gets put out about a fight, he gets extremely hostile and hisses or growls--it's like a kid yelling "You're not playing right!" Squish never does that. I think he's the most secure cat I've ever known.

So's IHOP, under certain circumstances.

I wouldn't use them to cater a party, though.

Argh, I went through the Italian restaurant thing with my parents once when they were here visiting. I'm guessing you handled the situation with a bit more grace than I did.

I didn't have to deal with it in this case; I'd only been providing info to my mother.

I have had to deal with it with members of my family by marriage, which is all I am going to say on the matter. ;)

I'm so grateful that exposing my father to two plus years of Food Network has had the positive result of him wanting to try local chef's and cuisine. We still go to places like Macaroni Grill when it's a large group, because it's the most practical thing - but just as family? Bring the local strange places!

...a huge change from when he refused to eat anywhere but a steak restaurant chain. (A few were options, bu it had to be some place he was familiar with and would provide food he knew he liked.)

My mother is not quite the epicure that I am, but she still generally prefers interesting local restaurants over large chains, and had been going to some lengths to find a place that would suit everyone. As she noted, it's their party and they get final say, but it's not the ideal she'd been aiming for.

There were also some, shall we say, personal dynamics at play in this, about which there is nothing at all to be done. So we just smile and deal with it.
